Hi There Ladies...
I am 26w6d with baby #5.My last baby was born 12yrs ago. I am getting quite panicky with the thought of labour  I have heard different rumours like having such a big gap labour is like the 1st time again, which bothers me because my 1st labour(8hrs) i didnt handle very well, i was very young,i was induced and pretty much screamed from the 1st contraction :blush: my 2nd labour(5 hrsish) 2yrs later was easier, 3rd labour(4hrs after waters being popped(5mins pushing) 5yrs later i was induced again and felt like i lost the plot abit. Labour 4 (5hrs and 5mins pushing)i felt more in conrol with pain. The other thing people keep saying to me all the time is no.5 will be very quick...I know we can never predict what our labours will be like but i was wandering if any of you lovely ladies have had big gaps in babies and had positive labours....I am considering a home birth this time hoping it will help me feel more relaxed...

Sorry for the long thread and thank you for reading..
xx

hi sea shells, firstly sorry about my ticker!
i had charlie 5mths ago, had my boy who is nearly 16 when i was 25 and had a horrible 26hr labour which ended in forceps and 2nd degree tears, my daughter was 5yrs later at 30 and that labour was very very quick, no drugs tears etc,, she just flew out!
i was really worried like you, scared my body had forgot what to do and i would have a repeat of jake but also scared it would be quick like mia's and i wouldnt get to hospital in time, well it was neither. i had a sweep at 9am and within an hour was having mild contractions which increased through the day, i went in at 11pm and he was born at 4am, it was very intense, he had the cord tight round his neck twice and it all got abit panicky at the end and i had forgotten how painful it was but i think i was definately more relaxed this time, i didnt make a birth plan as through experience you know it can all go out the window in a flash, when they asked me about pain relief i said id wait and see how i got on, if i felt i needed an epi then i was gonna have one but in the end i did it on just gas and air, my midwife and docs definately listened to me more and your body wont forget, nature takes over in the end , just try and stay calm. i was definately more tired afterwards though and instead of trying to race to get home as quickly as poss i enjoyed my 2 days in hospital, hoping you have a nice easy birth and a lovely beautiful baby in your arms , you know it will all be worth it x

Thank you so much for your post oldmamamia, its nice to know someone else was feeling scared too. Most people just say oh you ve done it a few times, you ll be fine and dnt seem to understand why i feel scared.

Congratulations on the birth of your gorgeous baby.
