Not much use me being fed up cos there is really not alot I can do about it, she needs to be fed!

I desperately wanted to breastfeed Amelia but from day dot had trouble, I tried and tried but she was not latching on and starving, so I went to expressing for her for the next 3 1/2wks. Once I stopped doing that (cos it was doing my head in) we moved onto formula. She was then diagnosed with reflux and we have sorted out what formala works for her little tummy - EXCEPT every stinking time we give her a bottle it's such a hassle. I thought most babies once you stuck that bottle in their mouth, they'd happily suck away and done. BUT NO! Not my girl. It's a screaming match EVERY SINGLE TIME. We have tried everything - different bottles, different teats, different teat sizes (little holes she gets frustrated with and larger holes just drown her), different temps. We've had claggy formula that blocks the teat, leaking bottles, we tried expensive you beaut bottles, popular brands and cheap off the shelf ones, we make sure the top isn't too tight so it allows airflow. Nothing works. For the first 10mins of EVERY FEED it's a battle to get it in her mouth and for her to suck and drink the dam thing. I need to trick her and stick in the dummy, then quickly pull it out and put the bottle in and do this about 3 times. But what gets me, half way through the bottle, she good as gold. She'll suck like there is no problem at all and take the whole thing!

DH gets so frustrated cos he doesn't give her a bottle all the time and when she plays up like that he thinks it's him. I feel that I am the only one who can give her a bottle cos I know what she's going to be like and (most of the time) have the patience to deal with it.

Does anyone else have this problem? What else can I do?

hi hun, didnt want to read and run but i feel for you. out of curiosity, has her toungue been checked to see if shes tongue tied? a friend had similar problems and turns out bub was. although he was only days old when they discovered it. good luck :hugs:

this happens to libby!! iv had problems bfing and just moved onto ff and its the same! be interesting to know if the tongue tie thing is an issue with us x

my lo was tongue tied and we had lots of problems bf'ing even after she had the small operation to release the tie. We now ff, and it has been a learning curve for lo to try and take a bottle, its a lot better now though still have a few problems at times.

Have you tried the Medela special needs bottle? they are pricey but are excellent for babies having problems with taking a bottle.

Before my LO's TT was snipped he found it very hard to drink from a bottle, so it's worth checking. Also, my little man went through a time when he was a nightmare to feed at about 3 months old. He would scream, arch his back and push the bottle out of his mouth. After a few weeks, he just stopped doing it. I had no idea why but it passed. :hugs:

do you think it is possible when she starts eating, it is hurting her belly?? owen, for example, if he needs to poop, he will fight the bottle and want it but then scream and arch his back. then follows either some gas or a poop and then he is back on it and fine. i chalked it up to eating and it is clearing his belly for new food. or sometimes we stop and burp him really well. if i can't get him to burp, me and my oh trade off and sometimes all the moving around gets him to burp or i will get up and move around and usually i get a burp out of him we didn't think could be in there. just thinking of things it might could be. i hope you get it figured out. it's so hard when they can't just tell us what's wrong!

xoxo

Hi I had to respond to your post and say i really feel for you. I am going through the same thing but the other way around. My LO is fine when you first put the bottle in her mouth until she's taken about 3oz and then, it's a constant fight with her to take anymore even though she wants it. She cries and thrashes around and it's horrendous. We also tried all teats and bottles and formulas including Lactose Free formula!

I didn't want my OH feeding her because I didn't want him getting frustrated with her either and no one else could help out because I couldn't watch her crying with someone else feeding her.

But now she is 3months old and is getting much better.....slowly. My HV said they will eventually grow out of it.

Good luck and I hope things get better soon xx
