is it possible to do this???

Ernie can latch on my left side fine and feeds well, but we really struggle to get him to latch on the right side, and i dont seem to produce as much milk on my right side as i do the left.(i just expressed some-and got 1 oz on the right but 2 on the left!!)

So i was wondering if anyone has successfully breast fed from just one breast?

I havent but it as 100% achievable! Women who have undergone mastectomy have BFed successfully.

BUT I wouldnt right that boob off just yet. Have you tried a different position? Babies often have a 'favourite' and sometimes simply changing the position will fool them in to taking the other boob. Your supply on that side will fall but as you put him to the other side that will rise so he will have plenty - dont worry about that! The downside is that you'll end up a bit lop sided.

I'd try a different position - if you are generally using cross cradle then I suggest the rugby ball hold. :D

god lisa you always suggest what i'm going to!! someone i know's LO would only feed on one side, the only way they managed to get her to feed off the other side was to trick her. they used the rugby ball position and LO thought she was the right way round!!

Great minds you see Alice!! :winkwink: Rugby ball hold seems to disorientate them enough to get them on and feeding :)

Babies often prefer the left breast as it is closer to the heart and they get the comfort they felt in the womb! We were def lefties initially and I ended up getting engorged in my right. As already suggested the rugby ball hold did the trick for us. You might also find that you feel more comfortable with the left hand side and so little one does to. I would say to keep practising. Once you get the knack of your right side life will get so much easier for you and will reduce then chances of you getting that 1 big boob look. Whilst bub is still taking more from you left keep expressing on your right - no matter how little -to keep your supply up.

Ps. Ernie is so beautiful, I've just come over all giddy looking at his pic

Yes it's definately possible, I fed Aaron just from one side for over a year. He had problems latching onto my left side, and although I tried lots of different positions (lying down is another good one), he was still losing weight and after a few weeks I decided it was easier just to feed him from one side. I did end up lopsided though, so it may be worth persevering with both sides a bit longer if you can.

Hayden was like that but with my left, he did still nurse off it but not nearly as long, and he preferred not to...I don't suggest only doing the one side quite yet...Hayden didn't start that until he was a bit older but my boobs were 2 diff sizes for awhile because of it :| Like way noticeable if I didnt have a bra on lol. What worked for Hayden was laying on my side and then instead of flipping him the other way I would just lean forward so h was in the same position but able to nurse from the other side

I fed charlie mostly from one side mainly because it hurt so much the other side! but i ended up with one boob bigger than the other (totaly noticable!) and its only just going back to normal!!
