Hi ladies,

I'm 12 weeks pregnant today..I had a scan yesterday where they checked the baby's fluid behind its neck & got told it measured 6mm. The sonographer explained we had a higher chance of having a Down's syndrome baby or with some other genetic complication

My OH & I saw a midwife specialist who explained that because of the result they would be offering us either a CVS or amniocentesis to be done ASAP..it's been booked for next Friday & I'm so scared & have been crying on & off since yesterday..please send me your positive thoughts and prayers to go alongside my own prayers. [-o<

I'm 39 & this baby is our beautiful ivf miracle that we waited over 5 years for & paid a small fortune to conceive with fertility treatments. I just want a healthy baby..I've been reading about other ladies experiences on different forums but wanted to hear from others in my situation on b&b.

Thank you ladies, sending baby dust to us all :dust:

Did you get bloods done at the same time? I know my sisters baby had a high neck measurement but the bloods came back really low.

Maybe post in 2nd tri too... I've seen sooooo many stories where people have high neck measurements and everything turns out perfectly fine!!! I'm really hoping the same for you!!! Is there a blood test instead of CVS that you can do? I know here in the US we are offered the materniT21 or harmony or panorama test, these tests are simple blood tests from you that they extract the babies DNA from your blood and it's 100% accurate on diagnosing chromosomal defects... or at least my Dr told me it was... so maybe you can ask about that? But please please don't get so upset yet (I know easier to say then to do) but there really are so many stories where everything is ok with baby even with high risk blood results and high neck measurements.... praying for you, I can't imagine what you are going through!! Hugs... keep us updated!!!

Im so sorry u are going through this. It is terrible and I know the pain and uncertainty u are feeling.

Yes I have had a cvs with my last pregnancy. For me the neck measurement was fine but my bloods were extremely low which indicated a major chromosomal disorder. They hospital was 80 percent sure my baby had a problem and the cvs comfirmed triploidy which is not compatible with life.

Do u know what your blood results were? I'm hoping that your outcome is better than mine and that your baby is healthy.

If u have any questions then plesse ask xxx

yes i had a cvs done in 2010 there was complications with the pregnancy and had to rule out a few things to figure out what was wrong , im not going to lie it was painful but soon passed i think it was mixed with nerves as well as it came as a big shock to us if you wanna chat feel free to msg me xxx

Thanks ladies for replying and so sorry to those who lost their babies. :hugs:

I had general bloods taken as well as more specific ones and was told I wont get results until I see the midwife at 16 weeks (takes 4 weeks for results?) & that they would be testing for viral infections and something else..cant remember what as it was too much info and me being in shock for me to take it in.

:hugs:

Yeah I understand. If there is a problem with your bloods then u usually find out sooner.

I found the test ok. I just stared at the ceiling and focused on breathing. U need to stay very still. The best thing about the test is u get a actual definate answer rather than still not knowing either way.
This next week will be a worry for u. Just try to keep busy and hopefully the time will pass ok.

Thinking about u
Xxx

I'm sorry to hear about your stressful situation and I hope it all ends up being perfectly ok.

I would look into the MaterniT21 test as someone above mentioned, it is a new blood test that poses no risk to the pregnancy but is over 99% accurate at detecting several of the most common chromosomal defects, including downs syndrome. I am planning to have this test next week (at 10.5 weeks) due to a history of a chromosomal defect in my family.

Best of luck to you :hugs:
