DH and I have been trying to concieve now for over a year. I have just made an appointment at the OB for a fertility check. What kinds of test do they do? Just curious...I am really just going through the motions. I have two children from a previous marriage so I am thinking it may not be me...but you never know I was only 19 and 21 when I had them and I am now 31...Thanks for any replies in advance...:winkwink:

I asked this exact question the other day on the 'Clear Blue Fertility Monitor' thread of this part of the site. They will take bloods at 21 days & also on CD 3 this is to check OV and hormone levels. I think they then go from these results to do other tests. I am not 100% up to scratch on this so I am sure others will be able to give more info.

I will keep checking back here to see for myself what everyone says!

Well looks as though no one has any ideas here for us...haha...

I went through this two months ago, and at my appointment (the first month) they will do a internal and external ultrasound on cycle day 3, they will do a pap test, blood work on both of you, ask you a lot of questions, and get you to fill out a lot of forms, they will then want you to come back at cycle day 10 and 12 (and if you haven't ovulated tehy will have you come back each day to monitor your ovaries via internal ultrasound until they see that you have ovulated.) They also do blood work each and everytime you are there for the ultrasounds and you will feel like a pin cushion at the end of it all. They will screen you for stds and also do a sperm test. If there's any issues there they might do a scrotal ultrasound on your hubby. Then when that is all finished they will sit you down and give you options as to where to go. The second month was similar with monitoring of the cycle via blood work and ultraounds but I found I was there much less. It all depends if your fertility specialist does cycle monitoring. hoping for you both!

they sometimes will also do a 3d ultrasound if there's an issue (fibroids etc) or a uterine biopsy if again there's an issue with the lining. AND also a sono. I had a 3d scan and a sono due to fibroids, most people do not have to go through these. :dust:

forgot you will also have blood taken on cd 21 to check your progesterone levels... if I remember anymore tests I will pop back on. Good luck!

Thank you ladies!!! That helps sp much since I have to take time of of work to go so now I have more of a times table to give my boss:)

remembered another test, a post coital test (PCT) This test involves the two of you having sex a few hours before your appointment time, the Dr will use a little tube and take a sample of the cervical fluid near your cervix (they are checking to see if your cervical fluid is healthy and not attacking the sperm and also to see if the sperm is making it to the cervix on its own) Very simple test doesn't hurt at all. I had to pay $50 for the little tube thing they use to get the sample.
sort of looks like a little plastic suringe, but there's no sharp parts to it.
