I'm a first time mom and just 3 weeks pregnant (5 weeks menstral age). I've come down with the flu and think I have a fever. I'm terrified right now b/c everything I've read says fever can cause miscarriage and neural tube defects especially if you have it during days 20 to 28 when the neural tube is forming and closing. I'm 21 days and at the exact gestation that is most sensitive to the effects of fever. Does anyone know anything that can help alleve my fears. I've sent my husband out to get a thermometer and Tylenol.

I would give your doctor a call. Maybe drench a towel with cool water and a bit of alcohol to cool yourself off. Hope you feel better soon!

any fever over 38 C has to be attended by a doctor at any stage of pregnancy.

Tylenol should be fine to take, as long as it's taken as directed and only as needed. It's dangerous to have a high fever. Personally I'd go ahead and call your doctor if possible.

thank u to all who replied. i've called my doctor's office and was advised to take Tylenol.

I had a fever early in pregnancy and my advice is to keep your stress levels as low as possible. Also, expose yourself to cold, damp towels and ice as long as it doesn't make you shiver.

Tylonel really works wonders, so don't you worry, your little one will be just fine.
