I am beyond gutted. I can drive that isn't the issue but I get so nervous and panic then make stupid mistakes it is so past ridiculous. My driving instructor suggested getting a couple of beta blockers from the doctor just to calm my nerves, but I'm a bit weary of taking them it seems like such a 'serious' medication to take just just for nerves. Anyway he thinks I should give the lessons a break until after Christmas and rebook my test for the end of January but since the new test comes into force on December the 4th I feel I'll need all the lessons I can manage. Do I keep going with the lessons or give it a break until after Christmas? Thank you guys!x

Oh no !!

I feel your pain I failed my test three times over silly mistakes because I was nervous !! I finally passed forth time !

I would keep the ball rolling and re book again as soon as you are able ! I find a break in these things only makes it worse (for me anyway)

You can get a beta blocker from your Gp for nerves but not sure if you would need to declare it to the DVLA if your going to be using it long term .

Fingers crossed for forth time ! Good luck x

I won't be using them long term it'll just be for the test, I'm fine during my lessons but the night before my test the nerves kick in and I start feeling squeamish and all logical thought goes out the window:dohh:.x thanks for replying

P.s glad I'm not the only one who has struggled!:flower:

Maybe give the medication a try then if it's just for your test ! I kept getting shaky leg syndrome which was really annoying!

I am still very nervous now although I have just started driving again after a long time this I wouldn't recommend feel like a new learner !

Beta blockers are really commonly used for anxiety and nerves, you definitely don't need to declare them to the DVLA. My partner was on them for years and my dad has been on and off them before. You do need to take them for a few weeks for them to have an effect. Kalms are herbal and actually work if you take them for a few weeks.

Good luck

I've taken beta blockers for anxiety in the past and they helped me quite a bit. I think they're better for dealing with the physical symptoms.

I remember my local chemist telling me she got a few prescribed when she was due to take her driving test too.

Maybe try some deep breathing exercises too, if you haven't already. If you practice them everyday for a few weeks, I found they worked better.

I thought I'd failed my driving test doing reverse parking before I'd even left the car park! I think thinking I'd failed helped me to relax for the rest of the test, as it seemed as though it didn't matter anyway. I was so nervous, so know how you feel ☹️

I was the same.
I eventually passed on my 5th go.
Just keep trying, people told me to give up and I'm glad I didn't.
I think I took some tablets called kalms for my nerves.

My cousin has failed 6 times now (I think 6) ... she's fab until she gets to test day. She gave up, I wish she hadn't.

I failed my first ... I think nearly killing the driving instructor taking my test nailed the fail HA  second time I don't think I did much breathing! I went for an afternoon test after lunch hours mid week, roads were quieter around that time.

I wouldn't give up. If you don't need lessons to improve on something specific and it's just nerves I'd do a couple to stay with it and book in ASAP for your next test.

Positive thinking. I can do this over an over.

Good luck <3

There is a new test starting on 4th December which has a lot for new elements in it so I will need to learn those! My instructor wants me to book for the 25th/26th of January, so I think I will just ask for an hour a week until the end of December then get two hours a week from then!x

This is useful information for me too as I posted above I've started re driving and I am very nervous . I wasn't sure if you had to declare it thanks

Highly recommend BACH

So are there new requirements for tests now?

Funnily enough I've just bought Bach rescue remedy from the chemist:haha:

Yeah they are removing a couple of monouveres and adding a few new ones, they are going to be adding more rural driving so more twisty windy roads, and they will introduce the use of Sat nav. So I have a few things that I'll need to get to grips with.

Keep going. I failed 5 tests. That was almost 12 years ago X

honestly can't recommend beta blockers enough for anxiety/nerves! i just take one when i need to and it works within an hour :)

hope it's 4th time lucky for you :hugs:

I feel your pain. I failed my last test (my 2nd) with four major faults! I hate the tests. Trying to bring myself to start again. Good luck

Sorry you didn't pass hun. I hope that the Bach Rescue Remedy helps. I've used it in the past and it was quite useful with anxiety :hugs:

Sorry to hear that hun.:hugs: when do you think your next test will be? I'm looking at the 24/25th of January!

I failed my test multiple times because of anxiety too- I get so nervous that I make the most ridiculous mistakes but I *know* I can drive. My test instructor even said it was a perfect drive if hadn’t made the silly mistakes (like too slow on a windy country road :dohh:). I gave it up when I was pregnant with my DD and I know it would be so much easier if I could drive now. Thinking about doing one of those crash courses that’s all condensed... don’t know if it’ll help though!

Good luck lovely xxx

I feel you!

What feels like forever ago... I failed 3 times when I did mine. I always had this cranky, older man, and I was sooo nervous! One time, after I had accidentally turned right on a red light when there was a "no turn on red" sign, he told me he thought the nearby state trooper was going to turn around and get us (I live in the USA so sorry if it's confusing! lol). What a nice thing to tell a nervous 15 year old.

Meanwhile, DH (my boyfriend at the time) had taken it with the same man and he passed first time, and the man was super talkative with DH and actually NICE to him. Felt like crap that day... Especially since DH speeds more and is more reckless overall. I'm pretty much a little old lady when it comes to driving. I rarely ever go over the speed limit.

Just try and get it over with. That's the best advice I can give. Once I passed (I went to another place and tested with someone else), I felt this huge relief that it was finally over with. Good luck to you! :hugs:
