I went to my fertility specialist today for a check up as when I was pregnant with my baby they saw a fibroid (the size of his head:wacko:) and they said I should get it checked out.

The fs said that I was very very lucky to get pregnant and not miscarry and not have the baby born very early. It did take us 2 years (and very nearly ivf, I got pregnant the month before we were due to start IVF) we were always told that we had unexplained infertility despite my oh having morphology problems.

The fs said that if I want more babies I should stop breastfeeding and ttc asap as the fibroid is likely to grow with time making my chance of getting pregnant drop.

Has anyone else been told that fibroids can negatively effect fertility so much?

I feel very lucky to have my baby but I am deverstated that she has diagnosed this progressive problem :(

I passed a fibroid during one of my cycles last winter it was painful and messy. I mentioned this to my doctor and he mentioned is more difficult to conceive, with fibroids. he didn't give me exact numbers or statistics. I will know more after my hsg.

Oh you poor thing, I had no idea you could pass them!

I had a hsg and they just casually said I had one but it wasn't close to my cervix so it was fine, then when I had my 20 week scan when I was pregnant it was huge, the size of the baby's head. It looked like he was playing with a beachball:blush:

I was really hoping she was exagerating the fertility issues.

My mum got pregnant (at 40 when my stepdad had supposidly 0 sperm and had adopted 2 children because him and his late wife couldn't concieve) she had a c-section and they found loads of fibroids that were so bad they had to take them out right away (They don't like to operate at birth because of the added blood supply) I keep trying to tell myself if she got pregnant then I should be able to aswell but my mum was very fertile and I and my oh seem to be very unfertile.

Mandy thanks for the feedback, it would be great to hear what your fs says. I hope your hsg goes ok, I found mine no more painful than a smear (and I got my bfp the month after) so I think they are a great thing!

I had no idea too, it was one of the scariest things I have seen at first I thought It was a miscarriage (this slightly gross and tmi, I am sorry) I was able to catch the thing when I went to wipe after peeing, so I was able to take a close look it was basically tissue wrapped in this thin membrane. It hurt so bad.

I think it's so amazing that you go pregnant! your baby is cute little miracle :flower: gives me lots of hope! I hope you won't have further complications with this issue. Maybe removing it in the near future could be an option.

The waiting is the hardest part, my hsg will happen 2 1/2 weeks from now after they induce a cycle (I am very irregular)

Thank you, he really is a miracle, the ivf dr gave me an internal ultrasound around ovulation the month I became pregnant and told me I had pcos and I had no chance of ovulating that month, getting my bfp made me think there is allways hope!

I hope you never have to pass another fibroid :( how scary :(

:hugs:
