Okay, so I have been applying EVERYWHERE. I applied at a dog kennel which I have four years experience and am definitely qualified to work there.

The manager called me last week and told me how much they would be paying me, my schedule and to come in dressed in uniform. Which I had to go out and by a plain colored t-shirt and new comfortable tennis shoes to work in.

So I get there and they seemed very nice and she told me to put my purse in the break room and basically started training me on what I would be doing.

I tried to wear a shirt that was a little roomy so it could hide my bump (it still isn't THAT big but is noticeable)

After worrying and trying to tuck my belly in because I was scared she wouldn't hire me if she saw it poking out, after she had been training me I kind of let it stick out and do whatever it wanted.

Then she was sort of eye balling me up and down, especially in my tummy area. She told me to fill out some paper work and then looked over it for a little while. After being really silent with me and almost ignoring the fact I was even there, she says, "Okay....well we are going to interview a few more people and see what happens and we will give you a call back some time next week."

And I was like "....okay...well can I go get my purse that you already had me put in the break room?"

and she was like "Oh yeah, I forgot about that."

So I just got my things and left.

Not to mention I had to wait for my boyfriend to get home at 2 a.m. from work so we could go to the store together and get shoes and a shirt for me to wear the next day. Ended up getting home from the store at around 2:45 and was in bed by 3 a.m. I had to wake up at 5:45 a.m. in order to be able to shower and get ready and leave the house by 6:30 and arrive at the kennel by 7:00.

So I did all of that for NOTHING.

I have been trying really hard to get a job my entire pregnancy and nothing has worked out for me. My boyfriend currently has 2 jobs and goes to school 4 days a week, so he is so exhausted doing all the work.

I want to work so badly and be able to contribute, but it seems hopeless.

Anyone else in this situation? Any advice? :nope:

Hey hun. I work at a dog boarding kennel now, and worked at another one previously. Every interview I've been to at a dog boarding kennel never hired on the spot, they always seemed to interview a few people, and train them to do a "test run" that day, so perhaps you will get a phone call.

Hopefully, but I don't think so. It was just the way she acted towards me.

hi, they shouldnt discriminate you in anyway because you are pregnant, however i bet some places do.
ive been without a job for 2 years and have been finding it really hard to get a job. i had an interview last week for sainsburys and i got the job! was really shocked as ile only be there 3/4 weeks. but just goes to show some places dont mind wether your pregnant, i best advice is to be honest about pregnancy and tell them at interview stage. Good luck with getting a job hope it all works out for you!

hey... I do feel for you and keep my fingers crossed that you will be successful. I had a similar problem not long ago although not showing yet. But I had this terrible dilemma whether to say it or not. It was early stages then so I didn't. But I know how hard it is when you feel discriminated and trying to hide your bump when you just want to be proud of it...
all the best to you.

Her loss. You're clearly capable/qualified and it's work you want.

Unfortunately, if she noticed you were pregnant and decided that she'd rather not have the risk-factor etc and no papers were filled out...nothing you can do :(

I was on the brink of really needing a second job but I've been lucky enough that I'm getting close to full-time hours at the minute so it's not an issue.

Keep trying :) people'll mad to turn you down over the Christmas period, any supermarkets nearby? They'll be recruiting soon/now and tend to be much better (have to be much better) in regards to equal opportunities.

I'm currently looking for work as well - I've been to several job interviews and have been very upfront and honest about being pregnant and it always seems like it's gone downhill from there. And i have a huge baby bump so it's impossible to hide - I know they're not allowed to discriminate on pregnancy but its so obvious that they dont hire you because you're pregnant and i hate that there's nothing you can do about it. My fiance works 60 hours a week and we're living with friends and me working would help 100x over. i have more than enough experience in a couple different fields, im ready to give in and just go work at mcdonalds lol

I think you would have to be very very careful incase any dogs jumped up at you. Hopefully you can find a job soon! Good Luck!

Ditto. It's becoming difficult for me to walk certain dogs, or move certain dogs from the indoor kennels to the outdoor play areas -- some of them pull way too hard and are down right obnoxious. I haven't had any jump directly on my stomach because I try to avoid it at all costs, but it still hurts when I leash up two crazy 100 pound Labrador Retrievers or Pit Bulls and they yank me across the room.

Well I used to work with 80-100 pound greyhounds which are very strong and muscular, so I think I could handle walking the larger dogs and what not. Although I am sure it would be difficult to handle the crazy ones haha

I know it isn't exactly anything close to a dog kennel, but have you tried any of the maternity clothing stores or children's stores in the area, lots of them are very family friendly and hire pregnant women no problem, especially now with it being back to school and Christmas approaching. The two busy times of year.
