Me and my husband have been ttc for 8 months. 2 of my sisters have got pregnant since we started trying - both of them at first attempt. The second sister just annouced it and I feel unbeliveably emotional and am finding things very difficult. It doesn't help that AF turned up today!
I was wondering how long anyone has waited before going to GP and how investigations have affected your relationship. I would really appreciate any response as I really feel I need support at the moment. No one seems to understand what I am going through although OH tries his best.

a dr wont usually see you untill youv been trying 12-18 months. they class a year as normal. weve been trying over 2 years with multiple m/cs and had months worth of investigations.. it put massive pressure on us but we were strong enough to get threw it :)

Hey, sorry to hear you are starting to have investigations.

The TTC board is really good for support and people on there have been trying for a month or in some cases over a year so they would be great at giving you support.

How come your GP is doing the investigations so early? We were also told 12-18 months (as per Tracie above). Fingers crossed it's just time that is delaying things - i know a lot of girls who got theirs in under a year.

This board is for long term and assisted conception so if you ever need any technical questions answered i'm sure the girls here (with their wealth of knowledge) would be able to help you! :hugs:

Hi Sprat, sorry to hear about all of those BFP's...unfortunately, it never gets any easier :(

To answer your questions, we got testing very early - 7 months TTC...I just knew something was wrong. We were diagnosed with severe MF and our GP told us we would definitely need IVF. I don't know why they make you wait so long for tests, because we found out early that we had major probs yet it took us a further 15 months before we got to get started with IVF. Makes me so happy that I listened to my gut and was pro-active so early on.

The first tests are a SA from your DH and a 21 day prog test from you. Both simple and non-invasive procedures so IMO, you shouldn't have to wait 12 months to have this done.

Hi Sprat, so sorry you are going through all this.

You can go into a Dr (if you haven't already) and get a pre natal check up. It's very basic blood tests and perhaps an internal scan. (Not always) which makes sure all your levels and so forth are ok for TTC. Sometimes if there is something wrong they can pick it up at this stage. But to do further more invasive testing they will probably tell you to wait until 12 months. If you have doubts seek a second opinion, or even a third - don't let anyone tell you how you're suppose to feel, it's your body

Thank you for your replies. I have not yet been to my GP but have read things about people going earlier than the year. I do feel that something is wrong. I am from a big family, my mum never had any problems conceiving and the 2 sisters who have tried got pregnant straight away with no problems. Everyone says it is early days and I should stop thinking about it - easier said than done as you will all know! It helps to hear from people who have been through similar experiences so thank you for replying to me. xxxxx

Hope you get some answers soon. Or even better...I hope you get your BFP. I know many women who take 9 mths or longer to get pregnant. Don't lose hope. I would (if you haven't already) stock up on some supplies: preseed lubricant (don't use regular), OPK's, a fertility themometre, and sign up to fertility friend. Also, a book I highly recommend is "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". If you do make an appointment with your GP, he/she will want to know if you are ovulating, your cycle length, when you are ovulating, and how often you uh-hem..."do it". Best wishes to you...

Hi Sprat,
I haven't been trying a year yet (10 months) and like you have had two very close family members announce pregnancies in the time we've been trying one is now 28 weeks.

I had issues with irregular cycles, longest being 81 days, tests so far have been and external and intra-vaginal ultrasound and hubby has had an SA, DR decided not to do a CD21 test as my cycles are that unpredictable it would be difficult to pinpoint the exact day to take blood.

if you aren't already charting will help you to answer some of your questions at this point. i discovered that i'm not ovulating regularly - my last cycle was 47 days long and i didn't ovulate at all - obviously not egg no baby.
Charting will help you to understand your body better and aid you in pinpointing the most fertile parts of your cycle, they are also awesome at getting a response from the DR, if you can prove that you are not ovulating (as in my case) then you can get tests earlier.

Best of luck and most importantly relax, getting worked up about it can do horrid things to your cycles.
