Booked an appointment at the doctor's today - I was told you should do this. When I got there, the doctor was really nice and everything and gave me some good advice. She said, for the first appointment, I really need to see the midwife. This was after me thrusting a hpt test at her and asking if I needed to do a blood test to check hcg levels - felt a bit of a gimp! She said that they take the hpt as proof of pregnancy and don't need to do a hcg test unless you are bleeding or have a problem.

I flooded her with questions: i.e. about taking B6, toxiplasmosis (we have cats), risks to the baby etc etc! I must have looked like the most paranoid mum to be ever!

So, new midwife appointment is in three weeks time - apparantely they take blood - aaagghh! I have never given blood before and am a bit scared! Does it hurt? Oh well, I suppose that is nothing compared to what we have to look forward to during labour!

I'm not a fan of giving blood, they always have problems finding my veins, but after the initial prick it doesn't hurt to much  Drink lots of water beforehand, it will make finding your veins easier

Glad you had a good first appointment! Did the Dr. give you any good advice? Mine put me on a calcium pill, in addition to the prenatal vitamins (because I don't like drinking milk).

wow! thats great you get MW app so soon, you have to wait till 12 weeks where i live, such a long time from seeing doc to first app.
From memory of DS i dont think she got bloods at the booking in app (as its called here), think it was the visit after. It wont hurt, just dont look and its all in a good cause!

Seriously?! I havn't even had mine yet, apart from my blood group because I was bleeding

Yep my Dr. wanted all sorts of tests to be run with the bloodwork, plus checking my HCG levels to make sure I really am PG. Didn't even take a test in the office...

Great news poppy!! keep us posted!!! :D

Aww poppy :hugs:

Glad you got your first appointment. As for taking blood it hurts a tiny bit but not too bad. Then again I don't mind needles (I love piercings ). I had my blood work done right away too, after my first appointment they sent me to the labs. Good luck hon!

Go Poppy!! :) We had 1st appointment the same day!! :)

What did your doc sayabout taking the B6? Mine kind of just shrugged it of like no big deal...I've been trying to research the hell out of it! :)

My doctor said, that along with taking my Pregnacare and having a balanced diet, I probably wouldn't need it. She said the pregnancy is now 'established.' I'm not sure I want to stop taking it yet - I keep thinking, 'what if the progesterone is not built up enough...?' New mum to be nerves and all. What about you?

I really think the only reason mine prescribed the Calcium supplement was because I mentioned to her that I don't drink milk and it was one of my concerns  She didn't seem too interested in my pregnancy until the 10th week or so

my doc took blood right away too - to check my blood group, to check my immunity to rubella, and other things - hepatitus etc. They also checked for a couple of STDs as routine. I was offered AIDS too. This was all as soon as I knew I was pregnant.
It's no big deal having them take blood, close your eyes and think of soemthing else.

Well he said along with my Prenatal I can take supplements if I want...but he did not seemed to concerned. I have lowered my 100mg B6 to 50mg now though...just to be safe I think. LOLLOL.

I don't want to stop immediately for exactly the same reason as you said!! Nerves I guess!

Got my triple blood tests tomorro :(
First test thats been done on me and im 14 weeks :S

It seems everywhere is different! As for bloods, it is a little uncomfortable, but nothing major, I could come and do it for you, and you can be my 1st victim, I jusy qualified in Phlebotomy YAY!
