Hi I am hoping that you guys may be able to possibly offer me some advice. I ahve my first specialist appointment on Thursday after 4 round of Clomid, due to anovulation lasting 2 years.

It has been recommended to me that I prepare a list of questions to take with me, is there anything you could recommend I ask based on experience?

Thank you in advance for any advice

Lol xxxx

I haven't really been in your position hun but wanted to wish you the very best of luck for your appointment.

Did the clomid help with ovulation at all? Are you able to go onto a higher dosage or are you on 200mg already?

Yes Clomid made me ovulate from the second month, I had a chemical pregnancy that month, and then I believe a chemical agin last month (positive tests followed by bleeding). I was only taking 50mg of Clomid so I really hope that they may prescribe more clomid and perhaps look to see if I maybe have a progesterone deficinecy due to the 2 possible chems?

Thanks so much for replying it means so much to have people out there xxxx

also I really hope they will monitor me as I did not ahve any scans or blood tests whilst on the meds, maybe this would help me to understand what happens with my lining etc as previous to my Clomid prescription I had practically no lining in my uterus.

That's great to hear the Clomid is helping you ovulate. To check for progesterone, it's done 7 days after you ovulate.

I remember my first Fertility Specialist appointment, not too long ago. He went through my and my DH medical history and went through the different possible reason why we were not pregnant. I would suggest that your DH go with you. If he cannot, like mine couldn't, then go over with him his medical history and be prepared to answer questions.
The FS will probably schedule a sperm analysis for him to check his swimmers.

Good luck and keep us posted! :dust:

Thanks Acher, I will definitely make sure my hubby is there thanks so much for the advice :)

You're welcome lola. I'm glad to hear the clomid helped with ovulation. I was put on 50mg of clomid by one fertility 'specialist' and then took off it two months later by another. Basically, I have normal cycles and ovulate every month so the new specialist felt it was silly to be taking medications that weren't going to make any difference. I wasn't monitored in any way when taking clomid, but would imagine it would be a very good thing to ask for. Like you say, maybe it may provide you with some answers as to why you are having chem pregs.

Good luck for thursday

Hey hun,

I would definitely recommend that you ask for a scan (but better still a lap) so they can check your uterus to see if there are any abnormalities there that may be causing the early m/c's.

I also think when on clomid they need to be checking your lining too.

Perhaps you could just ask FS if he could monitor you very well over your next cycle?

Best of luck :hugs:

Whern we went for our first appt he fobbed us off for 3 months after asking a lot of questions and dismissed my short luteal phase (7-9days max). When i go back in Sept im not gonna be as much of a push over. 8 charted cycles with a short luteal phase is not normal and i want some tests doing, think cos GP had done tests that were all clear he dismissed it although she never did cd21 test as she said i was ovulating and there was no point. What im trying to say is that you need to be firm and know what you want x

Def ask if they can try you with a higher dose of clomid.
Also maybe ask whats next after clomid if it doesnt work, what tests (if any) are they going to do etc

My first fertility appt. was useless - they just tried to fob us off and told us to BD every other day for 6 month (this was after 18months of doing that already) and then come back.
I had my second appt. last Thursday and this time went in armed with knowledge (thankyou all the girls on this forum!!)and asked for all the tests that I wanted done - and they agreed - so now on waiting list for a lap and OH having detailed sperm test. so definitly go in there with some demands - also ask what the waiting times are like for the tests they say they will give you - cos if you are anything like me it is the waiting that kills me and I just need to know what I am up against.

I really hope everything goes well tomorrow - keep us posted.
Bx x x x:hugs::hugs:

Thanks so much girls your advice means so much to me, it makes me feel less nervous about going, I will be armed and prepared :hugs:

Hi Lola, if AF shows at the end of the week then I will be on my 6th and last round of clomid! I remember my first appt with the specialist, it seems like I waited ages for it and eventually when it came round we saw the registrar who I couldn't really understand that well and felt rude to ask him to repeat. The saw the consultant who literally spoke to us for about 5mins and told me that they could find no explainations as to why we had not conceived so prescribed clomid. Well that seems like ages ago and since then I have seen him again(on my request) as I wanted to discuss having a lap but he said no!

Sorry to ramble!!

I would basically ask as other people have said;
* How much longer do they want you to continue with clomid
* Will clomid be availible at a later date-if needed
* What traetments will they give you next and how many
* Would it be possible to have further investigations done eg. hsg, lap etc

Hope it all goes well, try not to be pushed around though. I know that these guys are really busy etc etc but if you feel that you need things answered then you must!

Great advice girls... I can't think of anything to add except GOOD LUCK at your appt tomorrow!

I had my 1st appointment last week and I was pretty impressed so thought I'd share the experience and hopefully it will prepare you.

They basically did a history about me and DH and then did an internal exam and also took some swabs for tests. I also had to take a urine sample with me which they said they'd do a dip test on. DH has already done a SA (still waiting for result) but the consultant provided me with another pot just in case the results were inconclusive.

After all that they said they'll do a HyCoSy which is where they check the tubes via ultrasound so now I'm just waiting on an appointment. I was also asked to provide CD2 bloods as I'd already done the CD21 bloods. I now have to wait until my next appointment comes through which will probably be next year now (typically 4 months).

I've always been regular as clockwork and nothing in my medical history suggests I should have a problem but you never now.

In the meantime I found out that the problem is likely with DH as he had a SA 2 years ago which showed 1% motility and 3% morphology and count of 18million.

All in all they were very nice and understanding. I wasn't expecting to get my bits out so soon so apart from that it was fine. Good luck with the appointment. Hope it all goes well.

thanks Babymad, i appreciate the heads up on getting my bits out! at least if they ask me for that I wont be shocked. I have already had my CD21 bloods done for last month so hopefully that will encourage them to move things forward for my side of things, although I have been chasing the results due to my possible chem last month from my GP and they still haven't told me them.....they have promised a nurse will ring today so hopefully I will know if they are low and go armed with the confidence to ask for further testing on that front. I dont know if this sounds odd but I really want to be prepared and not spend time in shock if my results are bad and waste the appoinment by not asking the right things. I think my GP thinks I'm mad! they keep telling me, ' the consultant will tell you the result tomorrow', noooooo its a number just tell me now!

There's nothing worse than showing your bits when you've forgotten to 'tidy up' or have hairy legs. Thankfully none of those applied to me but 2 male doctors looking at my cervix (female nurse present) was still pretty embarrassing. I laugh now but at the time I was in shock! However, it's worth it if it helps identify any issues.

Hope you get good results and get them today. Good luck tomorrow. Do let us know how you got on.

Just popping in to wish you luck for tomorrow .....

Good luck for tomorrow I would ask if they think it is worth you continuting with the clomid and if they say yes request internal ultrasound scans around CD12 so they can check that you're follicles are growing properly and that the lining of your uterus is thick enough. I would then be asking for a lap if another couple of clomid cycles don't work to check tubes and uterus for any abnormalities. When I had my first appointment they decided to prescribe me clomid as I don't ovulate which I was happy with but as I had had surgery on my cervix a few months previous, and then had an infection after this I pushed for them to agree that if the clomid doesn't work I will be booked in for a lap.
