I'm getting myself a bit confused about how to do this! Yesterday I gave my 5 and a half month old C&G porridge, followed the advice of 1 spoon of food to 3 of water (it seemed a bit runny so added more powder) and he happily ate it all. There didn't seem to be much tho but am I right in thinking that's all his tummy can handle so that's enough? Do I give this to him once a day? Can i be giving him puréed food instead of the porridge or is it too soon and stick with the porridge?

You can give him many foods, some cultures give meat first. Just beware of the highly acidic or seedy or allergenic foods, like strawberries and pomegranate. Start with a very small amount and be patient with giving other new food for 2 days so you can watch for any adverse reaction.

Have fun! This is a really fun time :)

I thought porridge had gluten and was a 6m+ food? Correct me if I am wrong.

Cow and Gate porridge is just baby rice (no wheat or oats) and it's marketed as from 4 months if you choose to wean early, so no gluten.

As for what foods to feed, if you're going to wean before 6 months, it's just baby porridge and fruit or veg that's advised for now. You can give as much as he wants and as many different things as he'll try. You don't have to introduce one at a time unless there are food allergies to certain things in your family (then I'd avoid those foods completely until 6+ months). You might find it's easier just to do one meal a day for now and add in other meals as you go. There's no rush as you still want his main source of nutrition to be milk until 1 year.

After 6 months, the world is your oyster and you can feed just about anything (except whole nuts and honey). We started weaning at 6 months, but our daughters first foods were roasted parnsips and carrots, cucumber sticks, toast with avocado, toast with cream cheese, mashed potatoes, sticks of melon, etc. She tried lots of different things all at once, rather than delaying anything. We started with just lunch for about a month, then added in breakfast and then she was having 3 meals a day by about 7.5 months.

I have puréed vegetables to Coralie from 4 months. Sweet potato was her first food :)
