I currently have a 1week & 3days old. I feed her every two hours and at night we have one 3-4hrs skip but she is fed 11-12x a day. She has about 3-4 poop diapers n 4-5 Pee diapers usually in the day. She seems to feed 10-20 minutes. Sometimes she will take one breast sometimes both. At night she feed only 10 minutes one breast and falls asleep. Im worried she may not be getting enough. Any sure way to know??? Is this normal feeding for a 1week old? We have a weight check this Friday and Im starting to worry. I just want to enjoy my baby.

She sounds fine to me. I'm also a ftm ebfing and I worried about this a lot but the fact that she's making plenty of poops and pees sounds to me like she's fine.

Its just so scary with weigh in doctor expects a 4ounce gain this week or wants me to start formula. I refuse unless her health is at risk. Is the 10minute feeds at night normal? I worry she isnt staying awake to eat enough in 10minutes

If that is what your doctor thinks, I would change doctors immediately.

What is normal for one baby will be different for another. The important thing is how often she swallows. A baby can feed for 10 minutes and swallow 10 times, whereas another baby would feed for the same amount of time and only swallow once or twice. *EDIT* When I say this I don't mean to imply that swallowibg 10 times in 10 minutes is to be expected. Especially for a baby as young as yours!

Can you see/hear her gulping? And how often? This is how I was able to determine whether LO had a good feed or not and was the advice I recieved from a midwife who was knowledgeable about BF.

Thank you! I hear her sucking and gulping. So hopefully its sufficient. What surprised me is the fact that i have no leaking pain or nipple soreness. But i feel her tongue and her suckling.

I may change her pediatrician if he doesnt drop formula issue as my husband is for either and thinks bottles would be easier but i love breast feeding.

If you hear her sucking then I wouldn't be concerned. As long as her diaper output is good and she seems well within herself you are doing a great job. Kellymom details what kind of diapers you can expect to see in a healthy BF baby:

But yeah, I would try and find a BF friendly doctor who isn't so ready to push for formula. As for your partner he just has to suck it up and respect your choice. You are doing a wonderful thing by breastfeeding your baby, he should be supportive!

Sounds like you are doing really well. Diaper output sounds good and is one of the best things to go by. Time on the breast is so varied from each baby so isn't a good sign of how much they are getting.
Meanwhile no pain is a good thing, obviously your lo is latching well.

The night feed seems similar to what I experienced with my LO. She would sleep 4-5hours, fuss and feed on one side for 10 minutes or so before dosing off. And she'd eat anywhere from an hour to two hours apart during the day. Sounds like she is doing great. All babies grow at their own pace. As long as she keeps gaining I wouldn't be worried.

Sounds like what was happening to us 2 weeks ago :)

Sounds normal :)

Your diapers seem sufficient ... I wouldn't be too concerned. :)

I agree with the others. As long as you can hear lil one swallowing, lil one has good output (dirty diapers), I wouldn't worry about it.

Lack of soreness is a GOOD thing. I wasn't sore at all when bfing my son because he latched so well. My daughter...now that's a different story completely

I changed dr's when she started hinting that my daughter would sleep better on formula (started this conversation without looking at the notes from the nurse). After reading the notes and finding that my 8 week old was pretty much sleeping through the night, she didn't push the formula as hard. That was the last time I took my daughter to her. Made me wonder how many other mothers she pushed into formula when there wasn't a need for it!

Sounds exactly like my newborn was at 1-2 weeks. He's now sleeping longer at night and not feeding as much as before. All sounds perfectly normal :)
