five year old missing!!

Cops arrested 46-year-old Mark Bridger on suspicion of abduction on Tuesday afternoon - but have now re-arrested him on suspicion of murder.

This afternoon they were granted an extra 24 hours to question Bridger.

Quoted from The Sun, do you think they have re-arrested him so that they get longer to hold him but on a different charge if that makes sense?

Re-arresting him does not affect custody timings.

So what happens if after 24 hours they are still no further? They just let him go?

I'm no legal expert, but yes they would unless they charge him in which case *I think* they can keep him.

If they charge him they will keep him, no doubt about that. The crime he's alleged to have committed is far too serious to release him on bail.

They still have to follow the law and offenders have rights. If they do not formally charge him, they have to release him.

If new and compelling evidence comes to light one can be retried. But retry is only possible once.

I never ever envisaged it would go this far, never!

They cannot keep him if after the 24 hours they have no evidence to do so. He would be released until formally charged.

Sorry maybe I didn't make myself clear, I stated unless they charge him :)

Thanks for that Kitty - that does make sense.

Wonder what the 5.30 PC will say :(

The photo of him in the van looking out the window. He doesn't look like someone who is remotely bothered by what they've done does he.

Everytime I turn on the tv I expect her to have been found.
this is just heartbreaking

How much longer can the monster that did this make her family suffer and not even know the truth???
Thats what gets me at the moment. Along with this evil crime there seemsto be little remorse

Girls I'm sorry if this has been answered but I'm still unclear. Say he is charged tomorrow, based on the evidence they already have....but then on Sunday MORE compelling evidence is found. What happens?

All these wonderful people they have interviewed with so much love and support for April and her family. You can see the sadness in their faces, how much they so hoped she would be found. The effort of everyone involved has been so amazing and inspiring. One little girl has united everyone and it's beautiful to see. I just wish April was there to enjoy it

All evidence will count in his trial. I'm not sure I understand why finding even more evidence would mean it's dismissed as he is charged already? Investigations are still on going and all evidence against that person will be presented when it comes to court. Charging him means they have enough evidence thus far to do so.

I believe, if it relates to the crime he has been charged for then it will be used to help build the case against him when it goes to trial and can hopefully ensure he is convicted accordingly. Just as the police will build their case once charged, his lawyers will be building his defence. Evidence can be collected later.

However if it relates to another crime, lets say a previous abduction or murder, I believe he will have to be charged with that as a crime in itself, which will then have a case built and will go to trial xx

I'm surprised its come this far too. A news reporter just used the words 'on suspicion of murdering the five year old' and it just made me realise how ridiculous it is. She's FIVE years old and he felt the need to do something like this!!

Thank you. Makes perfect sense now. Sometimes hard to think when you've heard so many things!

Heres what i thought was gonna happen on day one;

-That she wouldve been abducted for 24 hours then returned or found safe somewhere.

-Said abductor wouldve been arrested and done for child abduction.

-Aprils parents visited by SS possibly just to address the issue that I and so many others mentioned regarding the time April was out playing.

I know ive simplified it, but thats what i had in my head would happen...abduction is horrific, but i now so wish this was the outcome and not what it looks to be now.
