:hi: All

Fun news 1st :happydance: Fluff mail on the way Ittis and Issys, (brilliant sale at CandC and Jabulas) starting to hate my postie all of a sudden lol

I feel like im starting from stratch again with reagards to which nappies id like to get for LO...

I know its advised to try 'em all... but was wondering as the title reads

Flips vs Weehuggers vs thirsties

I was very pro Flips as iv read many reviews singing their glories lol... Economical, slim fit, dad firendly...+++ so many pro's...
Truthfully i have not done any research on Weehuggers or Thirsties, but last night there was a post on here of the Flips elastic getting slack within a month of use...And have heard others mention this. Ok its possible to maybe get a replacement - but not always iv heard. (Note to self thou RachelC has posted detailed instructions on how to wash BG)

So my question or concern is whether its worth getting flips... I was planning on having Flips as my main stash, like maybe 8 and a few others.
If i went with Flips would having more flips be more fliendly on the elastics and therefore not face the problem....

I guess i could combine my stash with Weehuggers as well. Are weehuggers slim like flips. Any chance of them fitting nb's, also is it a one size wrap or 2 size?

As for thirsties, aint gota scooby how they work as yet, lol its just that i seen them recommended in last nights post :dohh:

What would be your preferences and why?

Massive thanks in advance.

I haven't tried Weehuggers yet but have both Flips and Thirsties Duos.

The issue with Flips is apparently that even the slightest bit of build up of detergent on the elastic will cause it to rot. Mine went bad after about 9 months of constant use, I think. I don't actually think it's the number of times you wash or use them though. I'd say that after they've been washed a couple of times if there is detergent build up at all that will sit and rot the elastic whether they're being used or not. That's just my guess though! I'm now following the instructions Baba Me gave me and they do make sense; they're basically all geared at increasing the water level in the wash and reducing the detergent to the absolute minimum. I've only had my new covers a little while so I don't know how it's working... I'll let you know in 6 months! Honestly though, I was angry at the time I found they'd gone slack and they started leaking but I still think they're worth buying even if they do go slack and you can't get replacements. 9 months of continuous use with no problems for £11 is still pretty good IMO. I would buy them again.

Weehuggers come in 2 sizes but they're not any cheaper than Flips, which I find a bit disappointing. I've just bought one to try but I've heard that they do fit Flip inserts fine. People say that the cotton outers do wick if you leave them on for too long, something I've rarely heard said about Flips. The patterns are cuter though!

I love Thirsties Duo wraps (they also do Thirsties Duo nappies so be careful which you buy!). They don't have the flaps to tuck the inserts into but I don't find that an issue at all, even with a very wriggly 16 month old who often runs off mid-nappy-change. Well, I say not an issue, I actually mean no more of an issue than with Flips, as I find the inserts fall out of Flips easily too. Thirsties Duo wraps also come in two sizes but they're cheaper than Flips (about £8.95 I think) so I think they're worth the money. They have some lovely patterns too. I have one I bought new and one I bought preloved. The preloved one does have slightly stretched leg elastic so I don't know if it's a fairly common thing but more obvious in Flips?

In terms of what to buy for LO, I would get one of each to try with a couple of inserts per outer. I'd try the organic cotton inserts too, although I much prefer the stay dry ones myself. You could also look at the Gen-Y covers that Fill Your Pants have recently started stocking. Their universal cover has flaps to hold inserts in place. The size 2 one fits a Flip insert well but I'm not sure about the size 1s; it would probably be best to ask on here if anybody has tried them first actually.

I wouldn't buy more than 1 or 2 of any outer until you've tried them on your LO. If you find you really like them, Fill Your Pants (and other places too) can be really quick with delivery so you'd only have to wait a day or two.

Thanks Rachel!

It makes sense about the detergent build up causing the elastic to rot away. It is a pity thou, them being such versatile nappies. I guess by following the washing instructions may help the issue.

Iv read your post on your diapering idea for your future lo...20 nappies, 6 different kinds. I think il be following your example :D You always give such detailed suggestions that it would be hard not to :) Thanks! lol

Iv been reading about Weehuggers...gorgeous prints, but it kinda defeats the purpose a lil that the prints/cotton outers wet easier compared to the solids. I guess the prettiness is worth changing every 2/3 hrs. (still not sure if thats long or short for nappy changing lol) Also like you mentioned they are more expensive than flips or thirsties. I will be trying a couple as they have had fab reviews, + they apparently fit a newborn, Yay!

And thirsties, interesting option for me, as im on a tight budget... lol thanks for the heads up, iv been caught out already, lol got well confused between the diapers and thirsties wraps.

What do you put in your thirsties? Prefolds?

Also anyone who uses Weehuggers what do you stuff 'em with?

Edit: Have been looking into Blueberry coveralls, sounds similar aswell...

Thirsties are the primary nappy that we use and I really like them. No leaking, not too bulky, room for extra soakers, and they seem to be maintaining well over time. :)

In our Thirsties wraps, I use a Flip stay dry insert (plus a Little Lamb bamboo booster since LO started weeing loads more at about 12 months) or just put one over a fitted nappy. I'm not sure how well Flip inserts fit in the size 1 Thirsties though, maybe somebody else on here knows. A prefold would work fine though too.

Another thing I'd recommend trying is a mix of poppers and aplix. Some people love one and hate the other; I prefer poppers but don't mind using aplix for a nice nappy or for one that will go under a wrap anyway.

blueberry nappies are fab cant say for their wraps but id assume they would be similar in quality but they are expensive

I LOVE flips and didn't like weehuggers- they always wicked because of the cotton flaps I think. They come in two sizes.

You can get aplix flips, too. They're fab. x
