I post this in baby club but thought that I might get a better idea from someone who's been through this, so here goes . . .

My LO currently sleeps in a cot in our bedroom, but I want to get his room ready so that he can move into it when he is 6 months old. I found the Montessori floor bed idea on the internet and want to do this for my son, although my DH isn't convinced.

What I would like to know is if any of you ladies have tried this, or know someone who has, and how is it working for you?

Just had a google, its not something i've heard of before, it looks great. If i hadnt have bought such an expensive cot bed it would certainly be something i would consider.

I also 'accidentally' found the concept while googling something else. It just looks like a great idea for toddlers who sleep through - they don't have to worry about falling out of bed!

I love this idea, but my OH doesn't think it's healthy to sleep on a mattress on the floor.

I really like that idea! I'm about to buy a bed for Charlie so have been researching -I'm liking the futon on the floor although I wonder if it would be too cold in winter? Charlie really hates going in his cot now - he's getting too big for it :(

Claire - why does your OH think it's not healthy out of curiosity? :flow:

oh god knows. I know that when I slept on a mattress on the floor for a while the underneath went all manky and mouldy, maybe the air doesn't get to it properly or something. Maybe it was just a dodgy cheap mattress though and I doubt montessori would recommend something unhealthy.

Ahh I see! Never really thought of that aspect of it :flow:

I think its an interesting idea, but don't know much about it

The idea is that you put baby on a mattress on the floor so that they have freedom to come and go as soon as they are old enough to roll. You then make their room baby-friendly so that they can reach all their toys, etc. so that they can play when they wake up in the morning, instead of waking mommy so early!

I don't know much about the whole Montessori concept but I started reading up on it and there are parts which I would like to implement, although not all of it. I don't think I would ever be able to leave my LO alone when I know he isn't asleep so I was thinking of only doing this once my LO sleeps a little better at night.

I looked into the floor bed, but my LO sleeps so well in his cot that I never did it. I didn't want to mess with a good thing. So we'll just be going to a regular bed! xx

But thinking of dust, etc - I did have more allergy symptoms when I slept on a mattress on the floor than I did on a bed. (I went through a phase of sleeping on the floor!) but we had carpet.

For me personally i don't like it.

I struggle with her sleeping in a Ready Bed at her Dads.

my lo napped on her matress before we converted her cot to a bed. so she napped from 8 months to 18 months on there. before that she napped in her swing or bouncy chair. the big bed transistion was so easy.
