has anyone had the flu jab at this stage in pregnancy?

Went to my GP yesterday who advised me to get it, an a bit worried as i've heard of people getting this and then having full on flu symptoms!

I am getting mine next week (at 29 weeks) - had it last year and had no symptoms (but I wasn't pregnant). You can't get flu from it but it can make some people feel a bit off colour as it tricks your body into thinking the virus is there so you fight it. You fighting it makes your temp rise and you ache a bit, but it is your body not a virus doing that. Even if you get a few flu symptoms for a day or two it is nothing like getting the real flu which can make you feel really ill for a lot longer and increase health risks. Each person will react different and I hope I don't get any side effects this time but think it is better than getting flu. :hugs:

thanks Amy, am a bit more relieved now, will make my appointment this week to have it done x

Yes, I'm having mine done next week. The fact you can 'get flu' from the vaccine is a total myth- it is a dead form of the virus and although you might feel a little achey or have a temperature for a couple of days you won't have 'flu' as such- its just your body responding to what it thinks is a live virus.

I'm getting it as had full blown flu last year, was off work for a long time and had secondary pneumonia. I'd rather not have that again- I Work closely with members of the public who don't think twice about coughing or sneezing in my face (vet practice).

xx

It's a worry i wasn't sure to get it done or not but have asthma so decided to. I go on Tuesday so will let you know how I get on :)

yeah i also work closely with the public, good point Jess! It's off to the doctors for me, thanks for your advice x

i had it done last week and I've been fine x

I had the flu jab last week and except for having a sore arm for a few days afterwards I've been fine. What I would recommend is asking for it in your right arm if you're trying to sleep on your left side at night. I had mine done in my left arm because I'm right-handed and did it automatically. But, I wish I had it done in my right because I try to sleep on my left and it made it quite uncomfortable for a few nights. x

Had mine at weekend. Felt fine afterwards, just had a sore arm later. Actually jab was pain free.

I saw my midwife last week and I thought she would mention this but she never did. Whilst I was with her I totally forgot about it and only remembered afterwards that neither of us had mentioned it. I thought it was recommended for pregnant women to have? I have a gp appointment at 31 weeks so maybe I will get offered it then?

I had mine at 27 weeks and was fine except really sore and tired. They say it is better to have it done than not... Good luck!

I'm getting mine done next week :flower:

I'll have finished work by then so if it makes me a little ill i'll just sleep :flower:

Yes hun im having mine when im 29ish weeks, me and my children have to have them every year tho anyway due to us having asthma xxx lol and tbh the most I've ever had after the flu jab was the sniffles lol

I'll be getting mine at 33 weeks and I would rather have a few flu like symptoms than get the real thing and risk the complications that could bring!

I had my flu jab yesterday. Bit of a sore arm, tired and a bit under the weather from it, but pretty much ok! Worth having these side effects as flu is nasty and such a risk to baby. Would also recommend not having it in your left arm, it makes sleeping on your left side very uncomfortable!!x

I had mine yesterday at 29+5, had my anti-D a couple of weeks ago so the flu jab was a breeze in comparison!!

Had jab today and it was fine, I feel fine so far :)
