For 6 months now I have ongoing tinnitus, and vertigo, and crackling of the ears, I went to an ENT consultant who said it could be fluid behind the eardrum and to steam inhale etc, This all started with an ear infection months ago and led to two perforated eardrums, one day it would not stop popping so silly nhs24 said its a blocked eustachian tube and sent me to A and E to have a scan, needless to say they didnt do this scan as per usual as they cant deal with this distressing issue in A and E or give me anything to take. I have tried endless varies of treatments. Has anyone had this, and what has there experience been? I am convinced its my eustachian tubes that are causing the problems but the ENT has excluded ETD, trouble is I have a lot of neck and muscle tension. The ENT thinks its TMJ, but to me it really really isnt, is there anyway this fluid will come out, I can hear it whooshing around or is this something I am going to have to live with and then develop mastoidis, or menigitis due to failure of treatment by medical staff? I am sick of medical professionals who are not willing to help the nhs has went down the toilet pan, I am now refered to a jaw specialist and I am hoping he can be of more help. and why on earth has ENT discharged me? I am so angry and annoyed about all this

I am also a sufferer with my ears n have been 12 yrs

Some days if I'm busy I don't notice it but I get tinnitus whooshing sounds and pulse like sounds sometimes it's so bad I wanna cry

My right ear is worse than my left and coz of this I can't hear over loud noises

I haven't seen anyone about it just live with it as for me it's from ear infections I had in the past

I feel for u hun but unfortunetly no docs see the ears as anything important and jusg push us to back of queue, that's why I won't go to docs

have u ever went to the doc about it? thats a long time to be suffering from it. yeah the crackling is horrible, if I could get rid of that one symptom at least it would be a miracle!

I would say go and get it seen to. I lost all my hearing in my left ear due to repeated colds blocking up my tubes causing glue ear. Yes it took nearly a year to get my grommet put in as they like to try non-invasive stuff first, but I now have hearing in my ear, and even when I get a cold, all the nastiness is gone.

I have had ear problems for years and after some major issues in December they think it's menieres. Nasty stuff! I have all your symptoms plus hearing loss and balance issues :( Hope you can get it sorted asap. Inner ear problems are just the worst thing :hugs:

i'll be very happy to hear from you

No - sadly menieres disease is chronic. It can have periods of remission, but usually progresses. My problem isn't fluid behind the eardrum though so hopefully yours will get better over time. Lots of inner ear issues can take a long time to heal completely. I started having problems in 2008.

hi, sorry I didnt reply sooner been busy. I have had the condition whatever it is called for over 2 years.

I've had 'glue ear' now for 3 years. I had a grommet put in, and for the 3 months the grommet was in place things were great. The grommet them blocked up, had to be syringed, then fell out and tbh, it wasn't worth the pain and aggravation. I have about 10% of the hearing in my left ear thanks to it, and it's not showing any signs of shifting on it's own. When I was in the hospital waiting for my grommet to be put in, another gent was in the waiting room with me. He was getting his 8th one put in. He said they generally last about 6 months then he goes deaf again! :dohh:

At the moment I'm undergoing treatment for problems with my teeth. My ears can wait until they're done lol.

what problems have you got with your teeth? Im a tooth grinder in my sleep which doesn't help!

I had/have very badly decayed wisdom teeth - had pain in them since I had my first baby (coincidentally, about the same time as my ears started to play up but I don't think they're related) which was 4 years ago now, and I had my 2 top wisdoms out on Monday! Have to get my bottoms checked (need a filling in one) next month to make sure they don't end up going the same way - my top left was almost completely hollowed out. Horrid!

They could definitely be related!

Really? My dentist said that the decay was caused by a combo of the fact that they're so difficult to brush back there, and my poor diet when I was a child causing them to not get a proper coating of enamel. I'd be interested to know if it was related though as I have a lot 'wrong' with me (nothing major, just lots of little things that add up) and if I could connect the dots it would help me to understand.

EDIT: just did a bit of googling and it would appear that the problems with my teeth and my ears could be related after all. Apparently they're a symptom of a TMJD (problems with the jaw joint) and the fact that when I am in pain/stressed I clench my teeth in my sleep is another issue too.

Well who'd have thunk? I'll be off to the Docs after my teeth are signed off so pretty much after Christmas - but in the meantime I'm going to try the Otovent system (using a balloon to help equalise pressure in the ear and drain fluid through the eustachian tube. Google it...... lol)
