Just after some advice. Although, that's kind of obvious. Lol.

Anywho, my wee man is six months and under recommendations from his GP, we started weaning when he was just over five months. Over the month he has built himself up and is now on four meals a day. Porridge for breakfast and supper then whatever I am having for lunch and dinner. He is eating really well, I allow him to guide me and know when he has had enough and never force him to eat. I still offer him a bottle with his meals and he drinks hos much he wants too.

Since the fourth meal was introduced however, he has gone from pooping once a day to four times yesterday and today I changed a poopy nappy at 2am (he still wakes once or twice during the night for milk) and another three before 10:30am. It's very sticky too. Today, he has only had milk though as I am unsure whether his body isn't adjusting well, if it's normal or if it's something to be worried about.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

He's Lactose Intolerant, not sure if this has anything to do with it. I am very careful about the food he eats though and make sure that he doesn't get any Lactose.

Thanks. X

Doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about. Naturally, as they take in more volume of food (solids have more volume and fibre than milk), they're going to need to excrete it and that's going to be in the form of poo unless you're feeding a lot of watery foods like watermelon, cucumber or soups. So you'd expect lots more poo with weaning. I know my daughter never went daily before weaning, in fact it was more like every 2-4 days since birth. Once we started solids, she now goes every day, sometimes 3-4 times a day. It's normal and I wouldn't see any reason to be concerned. That said, it is possibly a lot of food for a 6 month old, which isn't a bad thing at all if he wants it, but we only added in a snack in addition to 3 meals at about 11 months. So it could just be that the fact you've gone from nothing to solids four times a day so quickly could explain the dramatic change. Again, nothing bad about that, but you might see it as a bigger change than others who started solids more slowly. Also, as he's around 6 months, any chance he's teething. My daughter poos A LOT (sometimes 5 times a day) when she's teething. I know we got our first teeth at 6.5 months, so that could be an explanation as well.

Definitely a lot of food. Lol. We always offer him milk first but he doesn't really want it, he never had it much beforehand which was one of the factors in early weaning. I was concerned about the amount but the HV and GP say as long as he isn't being force fed (which he definitely isn't) then it's fine and to allow him to guide me. I still worry about it being too much but I constantly look for signs that he's not wanting it etc.

He started teething at 5 weeks and has his first molar on the top left through and the same on the right is coming through (I have a strange child) but teething never really effected his poop, it just makes him grumpy. It's just been the last couple of days that we are having these issues but he's been coughing so I wonder if he's a little unwell maybe. I tried giving him milk only for lunch but he wasn't having any of it but enjoyed the chicken risotto and apple. Might just have to see how we go over the next few days.
