Does anyone know how fast the food you eat will go through your breast milk? And how fast do beverages go through? Like Caffeine and alcohol.
I'm very curious and it would be nice to know :) Thanks in advance!

For alcohol - you should follow the rules of driving I believe. IT will be in your BM within an hour of each drink. SO - if you drink 1 beer, I wouldn't nurse baby for at least 2 hours... I think thats right.

Caffeine is different. It kind-of builds up in your system the more you drink. I would just avoid it as much as possible. One cup of coffee or one soda shouldn't hurt now and then though....

I read that you shouldn't drink more than 5 cups of coffee a day and for alcohol I know that they have little tests to tell if you milk still has alcohol in it. And from what I've read it says 2-3 hours after drinking to nurse again.

I know it varies with drugs so imagine it would with caffeine and alcohol with them being drugs? I have one cup of coffee a day and don't drink at the moment (co-sleeping too), have been out once and gave expressed milk the next morning. I think that it's ok to feed after one unit of alcohol but any more I think you have to pump and dump :(

Sorry I'm not much help... x
