I may get a bit of stick for this post, as pre making bottles is looked on to be really terrible! But after speaking to my health visitor (the only nice one ive had) and her saying that she made up all her bottles, knows loads of people who do it, and its fine, i changed my mind about making up bottles.
This is how i make my babys bottles at the moment; (for a 4oz feed)
- boil the kettle and sterilize bottles.
- put 2oz boiled water into the bottles and leave on the side to cool to room temperature.
- put the remaining hot water in a thermal flask.
- measure out 4oz powder into a storage pot.
When LO wants a feed i just sterilize a separate bottle, put 2oz boiling water in the bottle and add the powder, swirl and then add the 2oz cooled boiled water in with the hot water, swirl again and its the right temperature for LO.
However the health visitor told me it was absolutely fine to make up the bottles completely, put in the fridge and there fine for up to 24 hours. The reason for this is you have a sterile bottle, sterile powder from the hot water, everythings sterile untill you take the lid off, so once the lids on no bacteria can go into the bottle to cause it to multiply. Bit confused as everyone has different ways of doing it so just wondering everyones methods!
