Dear BnB ladies-

We are at a fork in the road. We need to decide if we want to go straight to two rounds of IVF or if I should first get a lap for the very strong possibility that I have endometriosis and then try for 6-9 months on our own before returning to IVF if we don't conceive. I'll be 40 in March so this is a concern and FS says I am at the middle of the group for my egg reserve. I have six follicles in waiting for the next cycle, he said that top of the group for my age would be 10 follicles.

Anyone been here before?
Where is that big pink neon sign I was hoping would point the way for us?

Hello RR

I can't help you from personal experience about IVF but I can tell you that for me the lap and dye wasn't the magic cure. I had the lap and dye in November and they found and removed mild endometriosis. We then had 3 more rounds of Clomid and 2 months of trying on our own before having 2 rounds of IUI. Luckily the second one worked but I suppose what I am trying to say is that I don't think the lap and dye helped at all.

I also asked the FS if I could go straight to IVF as I didn't have much faith in IUI at the time and she said at my age (32) she wouldn't recommend it. I would say if they are giving you the option of IVF I would take it sooner rather than later.

Good luck

Going by your timing restrictions I would perhaps opt with a round of IVF first. You can always have the lap at another stage or if the treatment is unsuccessful. I agree that a lap and dye can't guarantee success or even a diagnosis so IVF would be the best option IMHO.

Good luck!

I'm in kinda the same position as you with regards to needing a big pink neon sign to tell me what to do next. Next stage with the NHS is FSH injections to induce ovulation for 6 months (I haven't had my tubes checked - FS won't do it as he thinks I don't need it)

However we're not willing to wait 6 months for 6 more BFN's and have booked a private IVF appointment. Have an appointment tomorrow to see if I get the FSH injections....... not really sure which route to take for the best.....

We are both bouncing back and forth. There was a NY Times article in February 2009

https://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/17/health/17ivf.html?emc=eta1

Largely because of this article, I've narrowed down that if I did have a child conceived by IVF I would def. want to tell him/her because it is his/her body and he/she has a right to know. Also I wouldn't want to hold a secret for my entire life especially from my own child. I want to live in honesty like I've always done. So that part of it is wrapped up at least.

Still a lot more feeling to go through before we're at the end of this decision. Thanks for your feedback!
