I was just wondering how much formula he can drink a day... My little man seems like a little pig... But then again I'm not really sure if he's getting too much or not enough. He feeds about every 2-2.5 hours and takes about 30-35 ml each time.

Is that ok?

I don't know anything about it but that doesn't seem like much atall to me

yeah.. that doesn't seem like much. Most people say you should feed every 3-4 hours too.. so if they are eating soon you could try giving him more because he is probably still hungry. Colton never really cried when he was hungry so we just fed him until he wouldn't open his mouth for the bottle anymore, and trust me.. Those lips were SEALED! lol
Colton was eating a whole 2oz bottle for his first week, then he went to three oz. He is going back and forth between 3 and 4 now.

Well where i work the newborns have 2-3 oz feeds which is 60-90 mls if im not mistaken.
x

Thanks girls, I'm gonna try with more! I feel so useless, I feel like I don't know anything about babies! Gonna get better I guess x

Roughly 2 1/2 oz of milk per pound of body weight.. i've always found that a good guide to go on, but don't worry too much about keeping that exact amount if your little one wants more or less.

Don't feel useless hun, I'm sure your doing a great job :) Hope you and your little man are doing well :)

dnt worry i kno how u feel! my little one is feeding every 3-4 hours and taking about 3oz, but it varys sometimes she will only go 2 hours and then only take 1oz, i think its just trying to get them into a little routine at the mo.

I always fill the bottle with about an ounce more than he needs. I'd rather throw away an ounce than have him suck air. He takes what he wants then.
Let LO lead the way, as long as he isn't loseing weight and is happy, he's fine :D

We all have to start somewhere Jess so dont worry, dont expect too much of yourself too soon:hugs:
Trust your instinct a bit and fiddle round with times and measurements till you find what works for you and joshua, all babies are not the same. I know when my time comes ill be the same,i havn't got a clue!! Im trying to read books and they all contradict each other so i think if i have any probs im just going to come on here and ask you guys lol
:hugs:

Hi Miss Jess!

As others mention, trust yourself and your baby. He won't let himslef go hungry, I'm sure! As for guidlines, here's what our nurse gave us when Simon was born:

_____Age _____________ number of bottles/day ______________ number of ounces/bottle
birth-15 days ___________________ 6-10 ___________________________ 1.5-3.5
15 days-1 month _________________ 6-8 ____________________________ 2-4
2-3 months_______________________5-7 _____________________________5-7
4-7 months ______________________4-6 _____________________________6-8
8-12 months _____________________3-4 _____________________________6-8
1-2 years_______________________20-30 ounces of milk/milk products per day

Hope this helps you see you're doing fine along the way! But don't use this to freak out, though. It's just a guidline!!! ;)

MissJess,

By the way, my name is Jessica as well and I happen to live 1.5 hours away from you! Are you a teacher, hence the "Miss"?

Curious me... ;)

Baby will eat at own pace - At first Caitlin was taking an ounce every 3 hours and my HV said nothing to worry about and when she dropped weight from birth weight she said its more than common and on next weigh she went back up.

Caitlins always been a small & plenty shes only just been taking 7oz but you knwo what at least once a day she'lll have 3-4oz still and thats all she wants!

Try winding baby after feed little rub little hold (a break) and try again maybe x
