We are going out on Saturday, and taking Oliver with us. Although our friends have 4 kids and understand the stresses of breastfeeding, I wanted to try taking some formula with us and see if this was any easier. I have been trying to express BM, but don't have enough for an evening. He always eats like a trooper in the evenings - stock piling for the night. I have also tried him with the bottle and seems to take it ok. He is a bit sickier, but I think Mervs Mum suggested burping half way through, in another thread.
Do you think this would be okay, or confusing for just the one evening? And how much do I give in a feed?

Hi hun!!!! Hope you're ok, we don't get much time to talk on here these days lol!!!

I've no idea on the switching to formula for Saturday as I'm bottle feeding so don't konw alot about breastfeeding but as for how much to give him in a feed, I'd try 3/4oz. Ollie is on 4oz at the mo and is a week older than Oliver so either 3 or 4oz should be fine x x

Thanks Jem. Yes, it seems like ages since we last spoke!! I'll try him with a cuple of ounces and see how he does. It's difficult to know how much they get when they BF.

When Ive given formula I've used the ready made stuff - its more expensive but when youre bf ing I think you can afford to splash out when its only occasional!! I'd stick 2oz in fir starters. :)

It may constipate him as his tummy wont be used to it.

I can imagine! My friend breastfed and timed it or something (x amount of minutes on one boob and x amount of minutes on the other) so she knew her baby was getting enough. How did he get on with the 2oz? x

Hi Kat,
We gave Ruby 2oz of Aptimel on Tuesday and since then have had nothing but problems. She has been so uncomfortable poor little love, constipation and endless tears... she is not by any stretch of the imagination a teary baby she barely cries! we've been to the out of hours doctors with her today :( dont get me wrong it may just be coinsidental and Oliver might not be the same but just incase he is i would try it a few days before first incase you end up with him screaming the whole time you are at your friends like I did on wednesday and believe me it was more stressful than breastfeeding  xxx

(i've just written this and realised you are out tonight!?)

Hey, i've got loads of advice on this, i BF all the time when jack was born but after getting no sleep i would give him a bottle as the last feed at night and then when he would wake up in the night i would bf cause my boobs were so full, since then he has about 1 bottle in the day and one at night b4 bed, if u start doing it early then he will find it fine, i can bottle feed jack one min and put him on my boob the next and he doesnt mind all i would say, if your going out and your going to bottle feed him make sure you express just b4 u go out so your boobs still think they are being used and when u get home express again or put babs back on your boob, i found that when u start using a bottle u need to express other wise your boobs think they arent being used and stop making as much milk, good luck hope this helps anything question i'm happy to help
