So we decided to try LO with a formula feed last night as the 1.5-2 hrly breastfeeds overnight were begining to affect me. I have a B12 deficiency which I am jags for life for so was finding it extremely difficult to function with little sleep. Initially I felt guilty about giving him formula but happy mummy= happy baby right? :baby: I dont know why I felt like this as I am not against formula feeding and actually thought in my heart of hearts that I would formula feed as I would hate breast feeding!! Turns out I really love breastfeeding but was struggling with the night feeds as mentioned above.

Anyways the formula feed went great!!! I gave him 4oz of ready made aptamil and he scoffed this!!! I then had to give him a top up BF as he was still hungry!! He had his bottle at 9pm, went to sleep about 11pm and the only woke once at 3.30 am and then that was him till 7 am this morning :happydance: Hopefully its not a fluke!!!

Going to do this again tonight but my question is do I still give him 4oz or do I up it to 5oz. My baby is 14 days old and on the aptamil carton it said to give 4oz but is this just a guideline?

Thanx girls xoxo

It is a guideline so give him what he wants. If he is happy on 4 stick to that but if he seems to be hungry no harm in upping it. He will soon bring it back up if his eyes are bigger than his belly. In my experience its just a case of following baby's wants.

I second the above, and also, just remember that as a breastfed baby he will probably take less than the suggested amount on the carton, which is for bottlefed babies.

Well thats the reason I was asking, he actually took the 4oz no bother and then had a bit of a breast feed too. So am I overfeeding him then? Should I just stick with 4 oz? He did spit up a bit after the feed but then wanted BF. Its all so confusing  xoxo

Yeah give him what he needs love, hollie has 4oz in her bottles but she has cow and gate hungry baby, but if shes still hungry awhile later i'll give her another bottle, she wont drink it all probably have another oz or 2 xxx

we're also doing the forumla at night as I was struggling with the 2 hours between feeds. We get a little longer msot nights not!

My Lo is 15 weeks though and will only take 4oz, so i think it does vary baby to baby. Just give what your LO wants I would say.

Likewise, my son is 13 weeks and will only take 4 oz maximum (he is bf during the day and ff in the evening).

if he is drinking all the 4oz give him 5oz he may only take 1/2 the last oz but at lest he will be full
