Hello ladies,
I've been BF for almost 8 weeks now but beginning to make the transition to formula.
I've been giving Emily a bottle last thing at night and she loves it!!

I've been using the aptamil cartons but was wondering if it was worthwhile getting the powder. I see that it says to use within 4 weeks...
How much of this do you go through? I would be planning on 2-3 bottles a day with top up BFs..
Does the powder really go bad after 4 weeks?!

Thanks in advance for any advice / comments you have xx

The powder never lasts that long in my house! LO takes 4 8oz bottles a day and it lasts around a week, sometimes more or less if she is havin hungrier days etc. even only a few bottles a day I wouldn't think it would last you 4 weeks although it would be great if it did last that long!! Lol. X

I've just gone through a tub of aptamil in exactly 1 week after changing from sma. My Lo has 6 bottles a day and he has between 3 and 5 oz's each bottle so I always do 5 oz bottles so I would imagine a tub would last you around 2 weeks so it would b worthwhile getting a tub xx

my LO is on 3 bottles a day at 7oz and that lasts just over a week lol x

DS is on 7oz a day and we use HIPP organic as it comes in 2 sachets that last 3 weeks each as we don't get through a tub of formula (ie Aptamil, cow & gate, the other one) until after the 4 weeks you are meant to use it by.

Thanks ladies... Tub of formula it is then!!

Currently sitting on a bench in a mobbed shopping centre feeding Emily... She was screaming blue murder!!!
On my phone to ignore the looks I'm getting... I hate that BF is still taboo to some ignorant people!!!!!!! xx

If I get anything like a funny look from people when NIP-ing I just give them my biggest beaming smile ever. That means they have to smile back or piss off. Works everytime!

You say i get looks when BF'in in public i get dirty looks by gettin out my bottle of water n pouring in the powder from the milk tubs as if im evil givin her formula!! jus no pleasein some people hehe

As rgards to ur original question, a box only lasts 7-9 days in my house lol n thats 5bottles of 5oz a day, a box shud suit u fine :) x

Oh that's a good point actually.. Was going to ask what you ladies do when going out coz it's recommended that bottles aren't made up.

Ashlee.. Do you just cart about your big tub of powder and add to the bottle of boiled and cooled water? It's all so confusing!!!! xx

I measure 8 scoops into a little tub and add it to the water when I need it! :)

I like these:

I wouldn't worry, the powder never lasts that long :)

How did I not know about those?:haha: Those are really cute!

Ok I'm prob just being daft... But can the powder be mixed with cold water (that's previously been boiled and put in the bottle?)
Please excuse all the questions.. I'm a sleep deprived mummy!!!! Hoping that by switching to formula she might sleep a bit better too!!!! ;)

Those wee tubs look good, I'll bear them in mind xx

You can mix it cold, but the "gentle" formulas for gas/fussiness/sensitivity don't dissolve as well. I also think it is recommended to mix it hot at least until they are 2 months old because powdered formula isn't sterile and newborns immune systems aren't mature enough to fight off some of the rare but possible bacterial contaminants. You could also make some up at home and put it in a cooler pack if you aren't going to be gone too long. We did that with breast milk and formula. I just set the bottle in a cup/bowl of warm water to reheat it or gave it to her cold.

We use HIPP organic and it comes in two big sachets which I think is a good idea. We were on aptamil but switched and Johnny's been less gassy and hiccuppy haha.

xoxo

Oh and for making up the bottles - I boil the water in the morning and put the water in to the sterilised bottles and add formula when LO is hungry. Much easier, I have no idea how people can make them up as you go along.. you'd have to be boiling the kettle constantly just in case :dohh: If we're going out for the day I buy the ready made milk in the cartons though, much easier xo

I use these when we're out. Even at home. Haha its just easier. You pre measure the formula so when you get ready to make a bottle you just dump the formula in. It's really quick and easy! They have three slots, so three bottles!
