Freaking out after sushi!

I came home and swore I won't eat sushi or even my favorite ice cream (just read that it also may cause listeriosys) until after baby arrives :( I know it is rare but what scared me is that it is hard to diagnose

Just curious, what ice cream can't you eat that can cause listeria?

Can you state your source? I couldn't find supporting evidence from a google search. From my research, the United States has the highest rate of autism with Utah being the State with the highest incidence.

Ive had sushi at least once a week if not more since getting pregnant and my dr has reassured me many times that it is absolutely fine !

it's the soft served ice cream, I guess the one you buy at ice cream stores and it's the one I love the most.

I thought soft serve came outta machine .. Like at Dairy Queen and stuff? Cuz the ice cream cones from like there, McDonalds and Chick Fil A are definitely softer then say Brusters or Coldstone

No where in the article you quoted does it mention a link between eating fish and autism. Most small oily fishes high in omega 3 (herring, mackeral) do not contain mercury in any harmful level, it is well documented that tuna for example and sea fish which grow to large sizes (shark, swordfish) do and should not be eaten regularly during pregnancy. Your post is hugely scaremongering and seemingly based on poor information. Eating oily fish is wonderful for a developing babies neurological system.

I have had sushi a couple of times during my pregnancy and haven't had any issues. I think you are talking about a Philadelphia roll which is one I commonly have. That is one of my favorites. Don't beat yourself up, I'm sure you are fine

I have sushi about once a month with no problems. I just avoid the types with raw fish in order to limit the chances of food poisoning.

don't worry! Think about how many times you caught a parasite from eating raw fish, then think of how many people you know who caught a parasite from sushi. It's probably never and no one! The chances of you getting it are so very remote and if you did and are in the third trimester everything should be fine anyway :hugs:
