frequent suctioning

well my little guy is back on the vent again because of his pda, they now are suctioning him every 30 min, is this normal i am so stressed over this anyone else go through this with their premie

Sorry to hear that he is back on the vent, it's so hard but he will get there. Millie used to get suctioned lots. The nurses said it's just because they can't cough to move any mucus from their airway, so then need a little help. Millie's oxygen saturation levels used to dip when she needed suction too.

Ohh I remember that! So scary!
But like sherryberry says, they cant cough so it all just gets stuck in there.
Anna mad mucousy lungs/windpipe quite a bit especially when she had a wee infection it got worse and she had to be suctioned quite a bit.
