I am from scotland and only knew of 1 Isla growing up. Its a lot more common nowadays. However, I dont see any point in your friend getting upset about pronunciation. LOADS of people pronounce my DD1s name wrong. Its Emilia and most people call her Amelia - even when I say Em-ilia like Emily....they still say aw Amelia, arghhhhh lol xx
Oh my god - someone else with the same issue!!! My daughter is also Emilia. I dont mind correcting someone initially but when you are correcting the same person time and again, that gets frustrating! And so many spelling variations!! I just go with it now.
OP, even my sister got my daughters name wrong at first. As others said, its not a big issue. I dont know how to pronounce half the names that are used these days. If you are going to give your child a more 'unusual' name (i love the name Isla but dont know anyone who's daughter is called that) you have to expect it. My son has a more unusual name - Taliesin. Its a welsh name pronounced Tal-eee-esss-in but as we live in England everyone seems to pronounce it Tal-is-in. No biggie, there are more important things to get upset about.
Just put it down to her having a bad day.
