Anyone else having this problem? I've searched on google about this and there seems to be hundreds of complaints so why hasn't the manufacturers sorted this?! :growlmad:

When I shake the bottle milk goes everywhere, also when I am feeding her. The bottles are properly assembled. Also this is not a faulty batch as I have returned and got more with yet still the same problem!!

I bought the avent ones as they are the best at reducing colic apparently which my baby suffers a bit from. Are there any other bottles that are just as good that do not bloody leak?! Or is there a trick to stop them leaking?

Many thanks xxx

Yes !!!
It drives me Bonkers how much it leaks, Im thinking of changing bottles now it just seems that the leaking is Too often, I was suprised because we thought avent was a really good brand .

:hugs:

Iv had this problem aswel! Bought brand new ones in june and already 2 of them have leaked.

They leak when shaken and also when i go to take the bottle out of connah's mouth....and it ends up allover his clothes!!!:growlmad:

Yeah I've noticed I have to screw them up really tight. But not too much of a problem as I use ready feed and don't do any shaking! That's really bad though, as far as I can see they're just about the most expensive bottles.

i brought avent ones when i had my 1st baby back in 1992 and they leaked back then!! glad to see avent have addressed the issue **rolls eyes**. This is the reason i have never ever touched avent since!!

If your baby is suffering from colic have you thought about trying the Dr Brown bottles?Yes they are expensive around £21 for 4 bottles BUT they are worth their weight in gold they are brilliant!! I could kick myself for letting the price put me off as long as it did!!

I used AVENT bottles fort DS1 and they leaked back then (7years ago) and i bought them again for DS2 :dohh: They still leak but i must admit its not as bad.

The reason they leak is because to reduce colic, they cant be air tight. It's all about presure but i don't know how to explain it. There are little valves on the teets and these are where the bottles leak from. I find that if you shake the bottle and it leaks, unscrew the lid, move it to a different thread and try again. Usually is you hear a little hissing sound when you screw the top on, it won't leak.

I hope this makes sense hun lol xx

I have found that if the neck of the bottle and ring has ANY moisture it at all when making the bottle up they will leak. Also I found that using water that is too hot will cause leakage. I 'swirl' the bottle now rather tham shake to mix the milk.

I've found if you don't tighten them too much then they don't leak. I've been using mine for 8 months now and rarely get a leak. Also make sure there's no powder round the bottle rim

I found the same rach. First off, try swirling the milk in the bottle/using one of those mini handheld frothers, rather than shaking them. Also, try as Rach said and don't do them up too tightly. I used to tighten them up, swirl them, undo the lid, put it back on and we wouldn't get anymore leaks. Hope that helps :)
Oh, and if you're going out.. don't leave the teats/bottle lids on, get the little stopper caps or you def will get leaks.

If water isn't too hot mine don't leak, the pressure builds up inside them when heated straight from fridge aswell. Release lid before giving and seems ok.

I work in a nursery and MOST brands leak!

I tend to hold mine with a t-towel wrapped around it when I shake it, and if it leaks, I unscrew a tiny birt until it hits a new thread and it doesn't leak then.

Ive realised that they leak if i screw the ring back on too tight if the waters still hot or they've just come from the steriliser.
So now i screw them but only enough to seal the bottle and ring and not too tight.

So when i add formula shake...hey presto most of the time they dont leak anymore ...i do say most of the time:haha:

xx

put the teat on and shake the air out first
do it a couple of times ... the steam doesn't get
trapped then and they dont leak

took me ages to work out the problem lol

Ah thanks everyone:hug:
It's so annoying when I'm feeding her and take the bottle away milk goes everywhere. I've tried not putting the caps on too tight, will see if that works!

Its the Avent teats that are the problem. I changed to Boots teats and the Avent bottles didn't leak again.

Yes peees me right off, I emailed phillips they told me to make sure no powder or liquid around the rim, the BPA free ones need to be done up so much tighter than normal ones but still we have leaky days. Annoys the pants off of me. I contacted mothercare who said they needed bottles back to test them, yet wouldn't replace them so would mean i'd have been bottleless yeah fat lot of good that would have been!
Anyway just do them up as tight as you possible can bloody hard to undo them after but since ive really been tightening them and drying the rims before putting on teat, them seem to have leaked less. We still have a few leaks but not as much as before.

Also the steam answer makes sense, as mine seem to do it the hotter the bottle. as I make mine up half hot water half cooled boiled water, but sometimes Ive made them fully hot and they do seem to leak more then. So I might try what jenny_wren said!
