Simeon is now on 3 meals a day and has decided that he prefers formula to breastmilk inbetween - so I have almost completely stopped breastfeeding :( I was hoping to continue once in the morning and once at night, but he just about manages the morning one, at night he wont accept it. Because of this my supply has gone right down, I never feel 'full' anymore and I actually wonder if anything is coming out when he's feeding in the morning.

Is it normal for your lo to decide to stop? He is sleeping much better, he goes down at 7pm and wakes at midnight for a feed, then sleeps through until 6am - so that's a good thing at least - but I do miss breastfeeding.

:hugs:Freddie did exactly the same thing hon!!! when he was about 4 months old, he was already having 1 bottle at bedtime and he just started refusing breast in the day, arching his back and screaming it was a nightmare!

so i gave in and started giving him 2 bottles in day and just bfeeding him first thing in morn and tea time, for some reason he would feed fine at these 2 feeds?!!!! and in the night if he woke xx

it really upset and stressed me out too, but like u said about Simeon, Fred is such a happy and contented baby, i accepted things had changed and followed his lead xxx

last few weeks however he has started wanting more boobie again?!! my supply seems to adapt fine tho my let down takes a bit longer if he feeds out of the norm.

if its stressing you out hon i would just go with what he wants, you have done a fantastic job getting this far so well done you! main thing is mummy and baby are happy xxx

You've done a smashing job sweetie :hugs:

Go with whats best for the two of you. You can always change your mind :) x

Babies would never chose to stop breastfeeding on their own BUT they are also not stupid and figure out very quickly that it's less work for them to drink from a bottle than from the breast . If you want to continue breastfeeding you might find that switching him from bottles to a cup (not a sippy cup) will help but you would need to out him to the breast very often!!!
