FS in Kentucky?

It just kind of depends on where you are in Kentucky. I haven't gone to a specialist yet, but in July (when I started seeking medical help) I decided to go to an OB/GYN at the St. Joseph East Women's Hospital in Lexington, because if we're still in the area when the time comes, that's the hospital I would go to to have the baby. I'm about an hour out of Lexington, but there's not really a lot of stuff closer to where I live.

My doctors visits run about $75. The first set of bloodwork was $700. I don't have any insurance, so I applied for financial aid at the hospital and they've written any and all lab work (I've had bloods and a pap) off!

I would probably either go to Lexington or Louisville. I wish this stupid clomid would just help me get pregnant so I wouldn't need to go!

$700.00 just for bloodwork. Wow!! I'm afraid we may not be able to afford a FS at this time. :-( It stinks to have to pay people to help get you pregnant. Grrr...

I don't really know the Louisville area, so I couldn't help you there.

St. Joseph East and UK Hospital both have financial aid programs. At SJE, it doesn't cover the doctor's visits (idk about UK), but it did cover lab work. I'm not sure about UK, I just know they do financial aid as my husband had back surgery there.

If you have insurance, it may cover some of the bloodwork and stuff as well.

What kind of doctor are you going to right now? An OB/GYN? Could they refer you to a FS?

I agree with you, it does stink to have to pay all this money to try to get pregnant! Since DH and I are paying out of pocket we are just going to do the Clomid, then if that doesn't work I might ask about Femara as I've heard that it works for some women that Clomid didn't work for, and then maybe we'll do the shots if my doctor takes us that way, but we can't really go more expensive than that.

We do plan on looking into fostering-to-adopt eventually (regardless of whether or not we have biological children), as it seems to be the best option (financially) out there as far as adoption goes. I would love to adopt internationally but I can't justify spending thousands of dollars to do that when there are children in need right here!

I'm currently on my sixth cycle of clomid (cd16). I wish it would work but it isn't looking like it will. I go to a regular obgyn right now. I had an appt last week and I was going to get a referal to a FS but due to sickness in the family I had to cancel. I haven't rescheduled yet because I'm kinda afraid. Stupid I know. We do have insurance but they don't cover infertility. :-(

Wish I was rich. Lol! :)

I don't have an RE recommendation, but just wanted to say that if you have insurance you might be able to get some of the bloodwork, etc. covered.

My initial consultation with my RE would have cost $150 without insurance, but my insurance (which covers testing and diagnosis of infertility but not treatment) paid for that visit, all I had to pay was my $30 copay. I've had several other office visits and my insurance has paid those as well. They have not paid for my monitoring ultrasounds, which have cost me $200 each.

I just had my RE's office submit all the charges to my insurance haha. But you could probably call your insurance directly and ask then what exactly would be covered. I think a lot of it can depend on how your doctor codes things when it's submitted to the insurance company. I've had ultrasounds which have been covered by my insurance under the basis of PCOS but my monitoring ultrasounds were coded as infertility so they weren't covered.
