Gained 4lbs in a week. :(

Well I didn't pass... Now I am going to do the 3 hour test and hopefully I pass this one. It is so frustrating.

Oh no! I'm sorry to hear that. :( I have a friend who failed her 1 hour test in both of her pregnancies, but passed the 3 hour test each time. I hope its the same for you. :hugs:

I am 25 weeks and I have gained 23 pounds so far. At my last doctors appointment I was told I am only allowed to gain a pound a week from now on, which really seems inpossible to me..I was told that I need to gain a total of 25-35 pounds for the entire pregnancy. I have been very lazy and not exercising and I have a desk job so that doesn't help. But once my doctor said I need to slow down on the eating and exercise it got me concerned. So now I do 30 min elliptical at moderate intensity and I log all my food so I can keep track of what in eating. It turns out it's a lot more than I thought.
Does anyone know how many calories a day we are supposed to eat? According to myfitnesspal and my current weight being 153 lb, I can eat 1750 to maintain my weight. I ate 2250 yesterday and burned about 250 working out.. And I was having to restrain myself from eating more. My appetite is increasing and that doesn't make things any easier.

I love MyFitnessPal for tracking calories! When you're pregnant, I wouldn't go by their settings for maintenance, etc... though. Use this calculator instead, and then adjust your MFP settings manually: https://www.freedieting.com/tools/pregnancy_calorie_calculator.htm

MFP doesn't take into account that you're pregnant, so it's usually not that accurate for pregnancy using your current weight. And it also depends on your personal metabolism. For me (when I'm NOT pregnant) to maintain, I have to have it set to lose .5 lbs. :haha:

My appetite seems to have gone through the roof this past week or two. I've put on about 5 lbs in the last 2 weeks, and most of that within the past week itself I think. I did notice I'm retaining some fluid now, as my ring no longer fits and my shoes are getting tight.

But I've been told to only put on 15 lbs overall. I'm still down around 8 lbs from my first weigh in, but at the rate I'm going I'm going to pass that and end up at 15 gain by the time baby is here!

Ahh thanks for sharing this calculator! I knew there had to be one somewhere. It looks like I am doing right about what I should be right now. But I was eating more up until now so no wonder I gained so much.

I had my glucose testing done this morning. My OB automatically orders a 2 hr test. I haven't heard anything back, so I'm assuming all is well.

Finally had a private scan done (at 26 weeks! LOL) and determined that we're Team Pink! So, one of each for our family. :flower:

On the other hand, my weight is still climbing and now my hand is starting to get the numb/falling asleep sensation... I must be starting to retain some serious water. I don't remember getting that with my son until halfway through 3rd Tri!

Well, I was going to stay Team Yellow, but just accidentally found out today that we're team blue. :dohh:

I hope your glucose test comes back okay. I won't be having mine until 28 weeks, so I have a bit of wait still.

So until last week my weight really didn't change... Then last week it was a four pound gain. I was just stopping in to let you know I blame you, Spiffynoodles.

I'm also hoping it was a growth spurt combined with some retained fluids, but it was really a shock. Officially back to pre-pregnancy weight :(

Sorry about the weight gain, but your post did make me laugh. :haha: Feel free to blame me for all the rest of the weight you gain from here on out. I can take it. :winkwink:

I don't weigh myself at home, but I am down to weekly appointments now. I was pleased to hear I lost 3 pounds about a month ago (within 2 weeks that time) and then they went to weekly and I was the same weight two weeks/appointments in a row, maintaining that 3 pound loss. Now, a week later, I have suddenly shot up 10.6 pounds?!?! I have not changed the way I eat, drink, anything like that. I'm waiting now to go back for BP and doctor visit so I'll see if it's elevated then but this whole time my BP has been textbook 120/80 give or take 5 each time. Urine always been clear. But what could a TEN pound weight gain be other than fluid?! I'm not hugely swollen but my feet have felt puffy the last few days but I have been working and they are in a dependent position most of the time.

Ugh I'm so upset. I had been soooo proud that I only gained 18 pounds thus far and now it shot up to 28. I know it's still barely within range for 36 weeks but I am bigger to begin with so I was really trying to keep it down to a less than 25 pound gain for the whole pregnancy. So embarrassing...

Oh, don't be embarrassed. :hugs: 28lbs is still far better than the 40lbs I put on in my previous pregnancies! Plus, if it is water retention, chances are, you'll sweat it out after the baby comes and won't have extra fat to get rid of instead. :hugs:

Aw thanks spiffy. I am hoping this isn't a trend for the next 4 weeks! Maybe just a growth spurt plus some water retention or something... I just don't wanna get yelled at (still waiting to see the doctor...) I would really like to stay under 30 if I can but who knows. I know now is not the time to be going on a diet or anything but it's still a blow to my self-esteem. And I've been soooo hungry and holding myself back and just eating the same amount I have been this whole pregnancy. Just doesn't make sense to me.

Well, baby does start packing on the pounds at the end, so it could very well be a growth spurt and water retention. My DS was born at 36 weeks and weighed a whopping 6lbs 11oz, so maybe your LO is just getting nice and plump in there. :winkwink:

well, I didn't get a phone call... and they updated my blood results online so I'm assuming I passed.

Toasty - 28 lbs is way better than I did my first pregnancy! I weighed in at 194 at my first appointment... then weighed in at 246 when I delivered! :dohh::dohh::dohh::dohh: That's 52 lbs.

This time around, I'm doing my best to keep it under control, but for some reason (glares at hubby) I've been making homemade bread, cookies and such lately. My biggest enemy = carbs. I think he's craving more than I do!

It's also probably part of a growth spurt. I've gained 5 lbs in the last 2 weeks, and towards the end of my first pregnancy I put on 12 lbs in a 2 weeks period... water retention!

Thanks ladies! My doctor didn't even mention it. My BP was elevated today though, 140/70, but may have been from me stressing about my weight gain. He didn't say anything about the BP either.

I know 28 pounds isn't that bad, but I was pretty proud of just 18. I have been craving carbs too, but it's been this way my whole pregnancy, and not just the past week or anything like that.

Just wanted to chime back in. I'm now going in for appts every 2 weeks due to my history with my previous pregnancy. And apparently I gained 4 lbs since my last appt which again was only 2 weeks ago. My doctor said she isn't concerned with my overall weight gain YET, it's only about 18 lbs, but that I definitely don't want to continue on this trend of 2 lbs a week. She says I need to stay at or below 30 lbs by the end. But the thing is I haven't changed anything I've been doing or eating for months! I mean yes I have been eating badly but I've been eating badly all along LOL so I don't know if it's just catching up to me now or what.

Also I failed my 1 hour glucose, took the 3 hour GTT on Tuesday (omg it was so awful!!) and am still waiting to hear back. My dr said she'd call to tell me my results either way so the anticipation is starting to kill me. If I have GD it will suck, but hey at least I'll kind of be forced into eating healthier I guess... but I also failed the 1 hour with my last pregnancy and went on to pass the 3 hour so hopefully it's the same.

Yes, some weeks I gained more than others. My doctor was worried, but as long as it balances out, you should be fine. If the weight keeps going up though, discuss with your doctor about limiting your portions.

Well, I had my 24 week appointment yesterday and my fundal height was measuring 27! It was right in track at my 20 week appointment, so obviously baby did go through a little growth spurt since then.

RcdM, I hope you pass your 3 hour test. 18 pounds at 28 weeks still sounds pretty good to me, after all, I've gained 14 pounds at 24 weeks, so I can only hope that I'll only gain 4 pounds in the next 4 weeks!

I passed the 3 hour test so no GB! I had a growth scan a couple of days ago because I was worried my belly is too big and my OB was nice enough to give me one even thou it only measure a week bigger. The baby belly measured a week and a half bigger on the ultrasound and the head was about a week smaller. This kind of worries me, especially the head part. The ultrasound tech wasn't concerned but I will discuss with the doctor at my next appointment. Meanwhile I am trying to cut down on carbs and eat more veggies and protein.

2 days to third trimester!

I'm glad to hear that you passed your 3 hour test! As for the measurements, I'm sure it's okay. My SIL's babies' heads always measure a little smaller on the ultrasounds, and they're totally fine. They just have smaller heads (although you can't tell from looking at them). The good news is, your baby probably doesn't have IUGR, because those babies tend to have normal sized (or bigger) heads, but smaller abdomens. Plus, sometimes baby's bodies just grow disproportionately at different stages, and then catch up later on. :flower:

Kaylen - Good for passing your 3 hr test! What a relief, eh? :happydance:

Spiffy
- Sounds like a good growth spurt! I can't wait to find out what the fundal height of my LO is at my next appointment. I swear she grew a ton in the last 2 weeks. It was 24 at my last appointment (24 weeks). So depending on what that is, I'll know how much of my weight gain was her, and how much was ME. :haha:

27 weeks today! Yay!

My weight gain seems to have evened out again. I think I was retaining a lot of water in the past week (judging by my feet swelling), and today I weighed in 1.5 lbs less then at the beginning of the week. Happy about that! Although I did indulge in some sweets today.

Looking back at some of my stats with my son, I had gained 20 lbs by 22 weeks! Plus an additional 32 lbs by delivery. So I'm actually doing fairly well this time around. I lost 18 lbs after my first weigh in, and have gained 10 of those back. So I'm still 8 under, and hopefully won't go too far past that by delivery... but at minimum, I need to stay at a 15 lb positive gain. So to do that, I need to gain 23 lbs or less. I think that's doable in the next 13 weeks! As long as I can keep a tight fist on my carb and sweets intake, that is... :dohh:
