Ok, I'm posting this in two sections in hopes that I get lots of responses because this is scaring the crap out of me.

So I was diagnosed with GD quite early, at like 24 weeks and after failing to control it with diet, I was put on insulin about 3 weeks later. First it was only at bedtime but my numbers just got worse and worse to the point that between 32-34 weeks I couldn't control it with nothing despite being upped to insulin before meals at lunch and dinner (10 units) and bedtime insulin (20 units).

Then suddenly at around 35 weeks my numbers starting getting more and more tolerable and then in the last few days I've actually had a couple of cases of low blood sugar. I've even tested by eating "bad" stuff and haven't really had any high numbers and even missed insulin doses and still had good numbers.

Today I had quite a big and not great dinner of the following...

Chicken
Smashed potatos
veggies
corn bread
tiramisu
creme caramel

and I didn't take my insulin and I tested about 2 1/2 hrs later and my sugar was 5.8!

I am happy but also very scared because if GD is caused by your placenta, is it a logical assumption to say that if it starts going away independently near the end of the pregnancy that the placenta may be deteriorating and not functioning as well as it did before?

I'm scared and I've tried getting an answer from my doctor, my ob and even my diabetes doctor and no one is giving me an answer! I am to the point that I am worrying SOOOOOOO much. I am being induced in 10 days but I don't want to risk my little guy before then.....

So scared, looking for advice or women who have gone through this before etc. Please let me know what you know or your own experiences and if this has happened to you.

Please

Hi, I am a type 1 diabetic and last pregnancy my sugars dropped at 36 weeks as the placenta began aging - they induced me at 38 weeks and all was fine. This pregnancy I started going low at 30 weeks and was up and down for a while then another very severe drop at 34 weeks and now close to 37 weeks I have had a third drop. My placenta is still ok and I will be induced on Thursday.

I believe there are a number of reasons for the drop in sugars - one is that baby is growing very rapidly - my most severe drop in insulin seemed to be the time my baby grew fastest based on the u/s growth scans. Secondly if you have had a recent scan and asked them to check your placenta then you have at least a week of being fine if it has appeared normal - basically you should tell them your sugars are dropping and get them to scan you and check the cord blood flow and placenta.

Watch the insulin - you may need huge drops in it or even to stop it now. You should be alright for the next 10 days, but perhaps ask them to scan you soon to stop the worries. Hang in there - you are nearly at the end.

Thank you soooo much! I have another appointment with OB on Tuesday, think it's ok to wait Til then? I also had an NST on Wednesday and will have another next Wednesday. I didn't take my insulin with that meal I described and got a 5.8 2 hours later and dared not to take my bedtime insulin and woke up with 4.8 this morning now. I'm just going to watch my sugars but think stopping insulin might be a good idea. I had a scan on Monday and I imagine they checked everything and it was normal, I have a copy of results but not sure how to interpret.

Think I should go in and get checked or is Tuesday ok? I did like 10 kick counts yesterday and although he isn't moving the same, he is moving just more wiggled and small twitches. If at any point he stops I don't care how often I have to go but I will go to hospital

At this stage you are watching for wiggles and squirms so if they decrease then definitely go in. And I agree at those levels it is best to stop the insulin but still keep testing as if this is just a growth spurt then your levels may very well go up again (I dropped my insulin in half at 34 weeks and then in the next two weeks had to raise them again back to the original levels)

You should be fine til Tuesday and then just ask about the placenta and cord blood. Going in seldom helps unless the movement has decreased since they should then just do a ctg/NST and if movement is fine then those tests will be too - it is the scanning you need to reassure you. What is the plan for you from here on out - will you be induced?

Yea being induced in 10 days. Writing this while doing an NST at hospital because I was having a he'll of a time rousing little one and really needed some reassurance and advice about my GD. Hope to ask doctor what's going on.

So despite being head down all pregnancy, Gabe is now possibly breech or transverse.....

:hugs: Hunnybear - you have enough to deal with without that. Hope you did get some reassurance that baby was fine. Not too much longer to go til induction (I did read that but pregnancy brain must have kicked in)

Well it was kinda a stressful NST actually. Baby wasn't moving at all and about 40 minutes in, they came in and made me guzzle ice water and wiggle him around to try to get him up and jumping and when that didn't work right away, they went to get the doctor and I started crunching ice and finally he started moving. They asked me about my sugars and seemed to be slightly concerned but didn't really give me any answers although they said I had to make them see me at the diabetes clinic tomorrow in order to get my glucometer checked out to make sure it isn't just giving me off readings.....somehow I doubt that is the issue because if I eat and then take my sugar reading 1hr after, they are high, but they just tend to come back down to normal quick and in time for the 2hr reading.

I dunno whats going on to be honest, I am really stressing and running out of patience and I am so tired and frustrated with DH at the moment....he has just been completely not helpful and spends all f-ing day sleeping and going on that he is tired and doesn't feel well and what not, but you know what, so am I but I still manage to cook dinner every day, wash up every day and generally do whatever needs to be done. I'm not exactly a bundle of energy and doing extra stuff, but I'm not asking him for anything unreasonable!

10 days to go and he won't get his ass off the couch...super....

Hey honeybear

How are you now! :hugs: it must be so stressful! will they induce you sooner! may be they should :flower:

Hi Hunnybear. although i'm not pregnant now (LO is 6months on friday woah..!!) my sugar levels did even out abit towards the end, my dietician told me some people find that also happens! Good luck xxx

:hugs: Hunnybear - you don't need your DH sleeping when you are having other troubles - men!

Hope they sort things out - I also doubt it is your machine. Keep a close watch on baby's movements for now and rather go in multiple times then leae it if necessary.
