I had my first does of insulin this morning, just 4 units. But the reading after an hour was even higher than I normally have at 10.5. I'm normally in the mid 8's to mid 9's. I had the same breakfast I've had that gives me 8 to 9's. I'm also on 1mg Metformin at breakfast time.

It's SO frustrating, I thought the insulin was supposed to lower the BG?

4 units is very little insulin and I suspect that they are trying to prevent lows which is why they start with so little - it will probably be increased gradually.

I have a feeling what raised your blood sugar levels was stress at giving the injection which increases cortisol and pushes your levels up. It should get better with time as you relax.

It also depends on the type of insulin you are using - if it is a long acting insulin then it can take hours to bring your sugars down and works for long periods of time - you can then also see what you did. If it is a short acting insulin then you should see a drop in levels faster and more reliably.
