Hi was wondering if anyone could help out with something I've got a 2 hour GD test on Friday, what do I need to know? What happens no bodies actually explained any of this to me and I'm a bit concerned, I know they have to take blood etc DH and DS are having to come as well due to lack of baby sitter.

With my dd they do a blood test then they give u a very sugary drink taste a bit like lucozade then u just wait around for 2 hours and they do another blood test to see how ur body reacts to the sugary drink ?? I don't think u can eat or drink from about 9pm the night before if I remember rightly and try not to have anything that's too sugary the day before the test .. Just going by what I remember I got to have another one too xx

One time I was allowed home, then next I had to sit for two hours at the surgery. I recommend taking a good book. If it was possible I'd let DH stay at home with DS as 2 hours is a long time for a good, or go to a near by park. Something to entertain him.

I do know we don't have to stay at the hospital so might see if they fancy a bit of shopping :). Thank you guys

You need to find out by your mw or hospital everywhere is different. Some you fast some you dont. Some want you to provide the drink others dont.

I had to stay in hosp walking could effect the results.

I had to fast with both of mine and will this time x

I have mine coming up soon and I'm not allowed to eat or drink other than water from midnight before my test and pretty much they are taking blood, then I drink the sugary drink go home for 2 hours go back to have 2nd lots of bloods and then wait a couple days for the results that's what I been told

I have mine today told tofast 12 hours they will take first blood draw ill drink the sugar stuff and then they take blood at 1 hour and 2 hours after

Fast for 12 hours, blood drawn, sugary drink that tastes awful, sit for 2 hours, more bloods. In my case I also passed out last time, I'm dreading this time. They should give you a leaflet explaining. I highly recommend bringing a sandwich with you so you can eat right away after the second blood draw.

Tbh that's my big concern, I tend to find I faint if I don't eat enough but also after blood being taken. I said to DH that if he wanted to take oscar to do something while I wait he is welcome to but he just said he wanted to be there to support me and DS would be happy playing and drawing :).

That's why I'm making hubby come with me. Passing out was scary and I wouldn't want that on my own. I did have very low blood sugar though. Only 2.0 before the drink and 3.2 after. Most ppl are fine.

I dozed off during the two-hour wait... It was a little embarrassing, but time flew for me this time. The place had a room for this test, with tv and very confy sofas. If they give you an option, drink cold juice. The first time I did it with hot tea and it was hell, this time I did it with cold lime juice and, while horrendous, it wasn't such a torture

All done, really hope I don't need to do it again after today. The solution made me really gag after not eating for so long, we got to leave for a while but didn't end very well after DH had to pick me up off the floor twice so went back :(. But all done and lucky for me DS loves making people feel better and just gave me cuddles. Tbh I think it was just the way my body reacted rather then normal
