Gender disappointment?

I used to be totally against gender disappointment and rather naive to it. But recently,y after seeing a fiend go through it, I think I am beginning to understand. Obviously I don't understand what it feels like as I have never felt it but to focus on one gender for so long and to be told it wasn't the gender you expected must be very hard to get your head round x
