So I am still breastfeeding my nearly 8 month old daughter but I have an operation on the 18th July under G/A!

I have been told I have to stop taking Fenugreek as of now prior to my operation which tbh is causing me some anxiety as I am worried my supply will diminish (I have been taking since she was born to help my supply)

Does anyone know if I can breastfeed her after surgery? or do I need to pump & dump (which I would hate to do as it feels like such a waste :( )

*it is only day surgery so I have my operation in the morning and will be home in the afternoon*

Thanks

I know people who have fed straight after surgery but I don't know if there are different types of anaesthetics. Can you request to speak to the anaethitist?

Yes the nurse at my pre-op suggested I speak to the anesthetist but I will not be able to do that until the day of my operation and I like to be prepared in case I can't feed her and therefore how I will make sure she is fed

I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it

This is useful and has links to other sources

I had a general anaesthetic for a day surgery last year, I was told to pump and dump for 24 hours afterwards as it can enter your breastmilk

Just an update I had my surgery Monday morning and I had a long talk with the anaesthetist and he said I was absolutely fine to continue to breastfeed and there was no need to pump & dump as if anything at all it would be very minimal

My baby girl is absolutely fine (expect this heat which is upsetting her)

Hope you have a speedy recovery and glad your little girl is ok :)

I fed straight after my general anaesthetic a few years ago. They said it might just make her a bit sleepy but it didn't :)
