Please don't judge me, this is really embarrassing for me, a few weeks ago I went to my gp as I had what I thought were skin tags on my perineum and around my bum, turns out they are genital warts, gp said to go to a gum clinic to double check but she said I may aswell wait until after baby is here as they won't treat me while pregnant, I'm seeing my midwife tomorrow and hoping I have the confidence to tell her, they been there since a few weeks before I realised I was pregnant so I'm guessing by dates they flared up once I had conceived... Will I still be able to have my baby naturally or not? Doc said I can but don't trust her to be honest. She said I could have had them for years but they've just not shown up. My partner knows about them but him and his mum are my birthing partners and I really don't want her to see them, also my partners cousin and sis in law are student midwives at my hospital and I don't want them seeing it if my midwife puts it in my notes :-( sorry for long post jut really down about it and feel disgusting :-( help :-( x

Sorry no experience, the best thing is maybe to ask your midwife. She will have dealt with similar before and know the best things to do. Plus you can speak to her about confidentiality etc. Don't feel bad about it, I think these things can sit dormant for years and it be impossible to know xx

I just need to get the courage to mention it to her tomorrow, I will see what she says, thank you :-) just made me feel really sh&£@! About myself, I've been checked in the past due to cheating exes but I've always been okay xx

Don't feel bad! This is really common. I have them too. Actually, I hadnt seen them since I had them treated 17 years ago, but they've come back in pregnancy. I've been told they won't get in the way of the birth at all and there is no risk to baby. I honestly wouldn't worry about people seeing them. People won't get *that* close, right?

:hugs:

Thank you for reply, least I'm not the only one!! So will I always have them now then?? So worried they would harm baby and mess up the birth!! Yeah you would think she wouldn't get that close but as its her 1st grandchild she wants to see him crowning etc :-/ x

They're a virus, just like regular warts. So you will always have the virus, but usually you will have no expression of it at all. Once the baby is born, you can have them removed and chances are they will never come back again. Double-check with the midwife for your own peace of mind, but I've been told by several people it's not big deal at all. Can you ask her not to put it in our notes? Even with people wanting to see the crowing, I'm still pretty sure they won't be focusing on that! And even if they saw something, they'll probably just think your body is just like that because you are giving birth!

Also, just for down the road, it's good to make sure you get your pap smear every year, since the virus that causes the warts can mess with that too.

Oh I see, my doc never explained it to me properly, ill defo ask my midwife not to write it in my notes ill also see whether I can be treated or have to wait till I've had baby! So I guess it's a bit like strep b then in the sense it can be there for ages without being detected. Thank you, and I will get my smear done, I was meant to have it last year but I fell pregnant twice then lost them both then when they reminded me I was pregnant this time around!

There was actually a thread on here the other day entitled "delivery with STD" (I think that was what it was called, it may have been "labour with STD"), search it, the poster was also asking questions about Herpes, and there were lots of good information posted on it. from what I read just in that post you can not deliver naturally if you are having a out break at the time of delivery, but if your outbreak is cleared up there is no reason you cant go naturally. Good luck! As far as not wanting people to know, I totally understand that but remember anyone training in the medical field would be under strict confidentiality contracts, and if they see anything in your file, they wouldn't be able to talk about it to any one.

I saw that post which is what prompted me to get over my embarrassment and post my thread, her thread is about herpes the cold sore virus which is different to genital warts, I've been reading up and it's okay to have a natural birth with warts whereas herpes is dangerous, I'm gojng to double check with my midwife tomorrow. And my sil is a student ATM, and is always talking about things at work that she shouldn't and I know if she saw it on my notes she would tell her bf, who is my bfs brother so I don't really want it being broadcasted :-/ x

Do nto feel bad and let this ruin your happiness... My best friend has them and like another poster said they lay dormat and its common for them to come about during pregnancy. And I am sure whoever is at the birth will not look at them and say anything or even know what they might be, they are there for the birth of your beautiful baby!! Keep your head up :)

I guess I just don't want the judging looks or comments :-/ my partner isn't bothered by them so I guess I shouldn't be either... I'm just gonna ask mil not too look, even if I didn't have them I don't think I'd want her looking near my bits anyway :-) thank you xx

Try not to stress. Pretty much everyone has them, even if they don't flair up. 80% of adult women have HPV (which is the virus that causes genital warts and also cervical cell changes that can sometimes lead to cervical cancer, more likely though it just gives you an abnormal cervical smear result). I've had an abnormal smear and had to have some tissue biopsied, so it's pretty much 100% likely I have it too, as do nearly all sexually active women. It just doesn't always flare up, or some women just don't even notice they're there. You can get them frozen off while you are pregnant - unpleasant, but effective. You can't use the topical cream to treat them, which is what they usually recommend, when you aren't pregnant. But you can definitely still have a natural birth. My midwives were well aware of my cervical problems and I'm sure it's obvious to them that I'm probably infected (most places won't test you for it though because it's SO common, it's a waste of money) and no one even batted an eyelid at my plans for a natural home birth. You'll be fine. Don't feel embarrassed. They are so normal and like others have said you can have the virus for years before anything pops up.

I've had them too although as far as I know they haven't come back since they were treated. They are a lovely keepsake from a cheating bf 7years ago and tbh until I was tri hopping and saw this thread I completely forgot about them! They haven't come back yet but now I'm expecting them to now! I'd imagine they would need treating after you've delivered now I had mine frozen (wasn't pleasant but not as bad as it sounds!) and I also used this weird blue treatment stuff which shrunk them away.
Will you update when you've spoken to the midwife I'd be interested to know what she says? I don't see mine till next month. X

I can't help but stress, I over think things all the time, il defo tell my midwife so she is aware, I don't fancy having them frozen off, sounds too painful :-( if I can safely wait till baby is born then ill just wait :-) and to be fair I'm pretty certain once I'm in labour I won't care who comes and has a look, all dignity disappears in labour lol xx thank you xx

Ahh what a lovely reminder of him aye! Ill defo update when I've spoken to midwife tomorrow and let you know :-) xx

I've never given birth but from the pictures and video's I've seen its generally pretty bloody and gross and there is goop and stuff everywhere. Even if someone saw the crowning, I doubt they would be able to see or pay attention to anything else. I would be much more concerned with defecating all over myself than I would be some tiny bumps that no one would really notice anyway.

I've given birth once and had one c section and when I have birth I pooed while pushing which was dreadful!! I've also seen someone give birth and it was rather gory, to be honest I didn't see much apart from a head so hopefully that's all people will see with me!! I think the main focus will be baby coming and being healthy :-) thank you, feel better now :-)

If there is a head coming out and someone is staring at your girly parts trying to look for a bump and wondering what that is, they have some serious issues lol.

Lol that is a very good point!! Not the prettiest of sights even when not in labour lol my oh wont even watch one born every minute so don't think he will be looking so hopefully his mum won't lol

So I saw the midwife today, was a new one, she wasn't very good she rushed measuring me and listening to baby, I mentioned the genital warts and she said I can't have a natural birth if they are active she said they are the same as herpes which is different to what my gp told me and what I've read, I've got to mention it to my consultant next time I see her, I also mentioned pressure in my bum and she said it wasn't a midwifery issue and to see my gp :-/ feeling very confused now!! On the plus side I've passed my secon gtt which I'm happy about as it means I won't have to be induced at 38 weeks... But feeling crap now :-(
