Genital warts...

Just breath hun. HPV is such a common thing, it just depends on which strain you have as to the outcome. And warts.. hunny it's ok. Breath.. I used to be a sex education teacher and I can tell you that the only thing GW have in common with herpes is that it's viral. Lives in your nervous system. Both can be passed on to the other, by skin contact, and both are equally embarrassing in their own ways.. But it's common. Trust me, when the girls above said that 85% of girls have it.. it's because it's true. They show up when your immune system is weak. Which is why some women don't know they have it, then have them pop up when they're pregnant.

Pregnancy lowers the immune system immensly. Your dr can do cosmetic treatment such as freezing while pregnant, and it's definitely worth the try, but trying is almost equivalent to dying your hair while pregnant.. it might not work. So definitely give it a try but to be disheartened if you notice they don't dissappear.. it's because your immune system is still weak.

The concern here is passing the virus on your your little one when you deliver. And let me tell you that is an extremely rare occurance. So if you just have 1 or 4 of them, don't beat yourself up about it! The chances of that happening are so little. But if you don't want to risk it at all, then definitely go with a csection. It is up to you.

Herpes is the same, as in viral infection, but it treated differently, if a woman has HSV1 or 2 then the dr will prescribe her antivirals to take to suppress an outbreak about a month prior to delivery. Which will help suppress the virus so it's not passed on to the baby.

There are some people that have said that Acyclovir or Valtrex got rid of their GWs so it's worth a try to ask your dr about it, being it's an anti viral.

Another side note is after delivery, chances are they will go away on their own if its a mild flare up of them, or your dr can remove them, and with your immune system getting stronger post delivery, they shouldn't come back.. especially if you've never noticed them before now.

Just breathe and remember that its so common, drs don't even bat an eye about it. and as far as your MIL goes.. tell her no, you don't want her to look if it bothers you that much!

:hugs:

Thank you :-) my doctor told me it poses no risk to baby at all yet midwife is saying I have to have a section which I really really don't want again :-( ill defo ask my consultant and see what she says, second opinions can't hurt can they! I know they're really common it's just I get embarrassed about my lady bits as it is lol, I think I have quite a few but can't really tell :-/ I guess there's worse things to worry about than seeing a few lumpy bits :-) its just so frustrating having my heart set on a vbac after my gtt was clear and now being told I have to have a section :-/ x

well hugs to you hunny :hugs: everything will be ok. and I hate the lady you saw, she doesn't know what she's talking about. If every person that had GW had to have csections because of it.. then so many girls would have them.. instead of the 80/20 ratio that it is. Keep your head up and don't let it get you down!

Thank you :-) she really was useless I was meant to have the same midwife as I had with my youngest but She's on maternity leave, I saw a lovely lady at 16 weeks and hopes I'd have her but they've changed it to this useless woman :-/ she was running so late the nurse was dishing out whooping cough jabs!! I think I'll just ignore her and see what my consultant says, I also asked her not to put it in my notes as family work on the maternity unit she said okay then when I got home and looked she had written it down!! Thank you for you're kind words :-) feel a lot calmer now :-) x

i just talked to my doctor about this on tuesday (for the 4th time (different doctors) :haha:

i also have a skin tag down there...well i had one before getting pregnant...and now i have 3 since being pregnant. when they did my pap at 8 weeks she said nothing about the skin tag and all my results came back normal. so i asked her what it was and she said it could be a skin tag or it could be a wart. they weren't sure. she said its absolutely no harm during birth and let it go. I asked 3 other doctors since then and they all said the same thing, nothing to worry about and unless its a herpes outbreak you can still have a vaginal delivery. i figured if 4 doctors from the same practice told me the same thing that everything will be okay and they know what they're doing! :hugs: i know exactly how you were feeling but i don't think we have anything to worry about!

Ah that's good to know!! I've googled it and every link says herpes are totally different to warts and that I can have a vaginal birth with them as there's no risk like there is with herpes, fingers crossed my consultant agrees with my gp and google!! She looked unsure when I said they were different as tho she wasn't too sure :-/ ah well guess ill find out soon enough!! :hugs:

yeah they are definitely 2 completely different things :hugs: I 'think' the only way genital warts would pose a risk is if the warts were internal and on the birth canal, then they would do a section, as opposed to them being on the outside. Im definitely going to ask them to remove them though in hospital after birth, i sure hope they do!

Sorry u are going through this, I have no experience with std's so I can't really give you advice. However, I do know that if you have genital warts then there's a high chance U could pass it to your partner and you'll just keep giving it to each other. After baby u should both consult a dr on how to treat it and prevent further spreading. As for delivery, I'm not sure but I wouldn't want to even take the slightest chance of passing it onto baby, eve if odds are slim.

Don't feel bad! This is really common. I have them too. Actually, I hadnt seen them since I had them treated 17 years ago, but they've come back in pregnancy. I've been told they won't get in the way of the birth at all and there is no risk to baby. I honestly wouldn't worry about people seeing them. People won't get *that* close, right?

:hugs:

Thank you for reply, least I'm not the only one!! So will I always have them now then?? So worried they would harm baby and mess up the birth!! Yeah you would think she wouldn't get that close but as its her 1st grandchild she wants to see him crowning etc :-/ x

ummm i hate to say this but I find this weird. If my MIL wanted to watch my baby crowning I would say no. I wouldn't be comfortable with her looking at my lady parts in any case, to me that just isnt right. Perhaps explain to her that your not comfortable with her looking so close down there. Tell her you don't mind her in the room but some parts are not for INLAW eyes if you know what I mean.

I dont have these myself but I have a friend with them and she was told she cannot deliver vaginally if she is in the middle of an outbreak as this will pass to the baby and can be fetal in rare cases.

Here is some info I found.

Pregnancy can cause genitals warts to grow at a fast rate potentially causing the birth canal to be blocked or making urination difficult for the mother. This can be a reason for a c-section if the birth canal is obstructed.

A mother can pass on warts and the HPV infection to the child. If it does occur, the child more commonly develops warts in the mouth and throat. It can be potentially life threatening to the child, but is treatable.

I'm going to get mine sorted once baby is here unless my consultant says otherwise, I've herd it's rather painful tho! I don't have any inside as far as I can tell, I've told oh no sex or anything unless he wears a condom but he hates them so looks like he has to go without for the next 12 weeks :-)

To be totally honest it is a bit odd, but I know once I'm in full blown labour I won't care if the whole of the department come in and have a look but for some reason I don't feel comfy with her looking, I wouldn't even let my own mum look at my stitches when I had torn with my last baby :-/ at least with a section I wouldn't have to worry about her seeing :-/ and thank you for the info, the crappy midwife didn't seem fussed about where they were etc so I have to wait 7 weeks till I see my consultant!! I think my oh and I need to discuss a section as I have strep b aswell so there's the risk from that for baby and also the risks of my scar tearing from a vbac, just annoyed As this is his first baby and I wanted him to see it x

It's probably hpv. it can live in you for a while and show no symptoms. I had hpv and it flared up BAD with my first pregnancy. it is treatable, don't feel nasty. they treated mine with acid, it burns them off. it's painful but it works. HPV usually "clears up" after a year. Mine completely went away after I delivered my son. It must be something about pregnancy that causes the flares. I'm now pregnant with my second and haven't seen one sign of HPV in over 2 years. It also hasn't showed up on my paps anymore either.

did you have to be treated before you delivered your baby?? theres so many different opinions about it its making me dizzy:dohh: i just assumed they were skin tags as i had a few show up on my neck when i fell pregnant this time round, clearly i was wrong! i just want them gone!

warts and HPV are not the same thing. If its clusters like you explained that is not HPV. Acid is place don the cells if you have HPV and the scrapped off. I don't think she is talking about that. You cannot see HPV cells without a microscope like they use when looking inside.

As for wanting your hubby to see, this is my OH first baby as well. Look at it this way (if nothing else this will make you smile), with a section he wont see your lady bits stretched and all ick looking during birth. Mine is scared to look incase it turns in off from oral or sex in general later..Men are so silly sometimes but its a common fear in men.

With strep b there is no sure way to prevent the GBS bacteria from being passed to a newborn at the time of birth and although it is very rare, and despite medical treatment, some babies still die as a result of complications from a GBS infection. Your doctor would like to help prevent this from happening. GBS usually does not cause infections in pregnant women, the concern is for the baby. Its for this that I would go for the section.

I know its sad not have a v birth, I might be looking at a section too if my baby is big and I don't want one. I am so scared of a section thanks to the horrow photos and stories on the internet. I hope talking with your OH helps and you guys can come up with a birthing plan that suits everyone.

genital warts and HPV are the same thing. Theres actually quite a few strains of HPV, over 40. genital warts is one of them. Its also one form of HPV that isn't cancerous.

yes; however the HPV that can be treated with acid and removed harmlessly from the cervix and vagina is not the same as warts that the original poster is taking about from what I understand

YEs, I was treated while pregnant.. with the acid. They CAN show up on the outside of the vagina including the inside. They didn't treat the ones on my cervix while pregnant though. I delivered natural and had no complications. I had several large ones during labor on the outside and a few on my cervix. My very last treatment for them was right after I delivered my son (while I still had the epidural). After labor they never showed back up. Might be a personal question but do they itch? Mine itched like crazy! Either way, theres not much to worry about with HPV. My OB said it is VERY common and most women don't even know they have it till they get pregnant or their immune system is low. One other lady said that you cant see the HPV on the outside of the vagina? that's bull... There are over 40 strains of hpv and not all show outside symptoms. Good thing is the strain that produces warts isn't usually cancerous and clears on its own usually after a year or so.

You must not have HPV.. Yes, they can come in clusters. The acid is placed directly on the warts and it takes a few days for them to die and they fall off on their own. You can definitely see the HPV without a microscope.
I've personally been through the process and I know all too well how it happens.. Its a terrible painful thing to go through and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Either way, that's how they are treated and its much better than living with them.

ALSO: SHAVING CAUSES THEM TO SPREAD!

No i don't have any of these things. Just went off what I read and what a friend went through as I was there for her through the process. I know there are many forms of it. From the way the post was worded I understood each to be talking about something different which is what lead to my comment. I understood your post to be the same form of HPV as my friend which clearly is not the same in which you are now speaking of so clearly I misunderstood what form you were speaking of from your post. please excuse my mistake
