So, I was diagnosed with GERD at the tender age of 18. I can deal with it usually, but in highly stressed times it spirals out of control.

I take Omeprazole twice a day, morning and night. However, since finding out I was pregnant, I stopped. Being a total idjit, I thought I'd be able to manage my GERD with Gaviscon and a good diet.

I can't. I'm incredibly stressed recently. And my stomach is getting worse. I have had gastric ulcers in the past, which my doctor said was due to my increased stress at the time.

ANYWAY. Doctors appointment on friday. But I really cannot wait till then for a little info.

How much gaviscon are you able to take? Generally, I just keep having a swig from the bottle until it takes the edge off my pain. Been to scared to do this whilst being pregnant though.

Anyone know if it is still ok to take omeprazole whilst pregnant?

Anyone have any advice on anything that will help me get rid of this awful pain? I'm at my wits end!

Hi....I feel your pain..TRULY..i have GERD as well also a mild case of barretts asophagus as a result...im 8 weeks pregnant and the acid reflux is working OVERTIME right now ...i take omeprazole 40mg every morning and my doctor has assured me antacids are ok to take while pregnant...and i may continue taking my med :happydance: . So i wouldnt worry its perfectly safe. congrads on the baby bean and hope all goes well :hugs:

Thankyou! It feels like heaven swallowing that omeprazole! Finally I might get a good nights sleep!

Talk about working overtime! I feel like I'm just a big ball of overbubbling acid waiting to explode. I having been able to sleep in DAYS.
(course my pride stopped me complaining sooner, since at the beginning i was all "yeaaah I'm coping fine! I know what I'm doing! I don't need my antacids!")

I have GERD as well. I can manage mine mostly through diet and milk and Tums, though there are days where even that isn't enough (especially since milk has started making me vomit). In my last pregnancy, my doctor gave me Protonix, which I took daily throughout my pregnancy. This time, he said that omeprazole is safe, though I don't feel good enough about that to take it more than once per week, and I am going to request another prescription of Protonix when I see him in 2 weeks.

Friday is very close... have you tried all the other tips to keep it at bay? You know, stay upright after eating, eat small meals, try to eat non-acidic foods, etc?

I feel for ya... heartburn on its own sucks, but when you have it constantly and feel like there is no way to get rid of it... its even worse. :hugs: I've laid in bed before and just cried because it hurts so bad. Even filtered tap water is a trigger for me right now.

Your very welcome, and i totally hear ya...if someone told me i couldnt take my omeprazole i would look at them like :saywhat: ....its a must for me...i have tried so much and like you said its like :happydance: taking that stuff so if someone tells you its not ok then :ignore: lol....they dont know the HELL we pay without it lolz. :winkwink:

I also take omeprazole.. I have had ulcer problems & probs with my pancreas.. anyway, my OB said it was fine to still take.. and I am :) I take 40mg twice a day bc of how bad I have it.

i take that as well twice a day and it is perfectly fine in pregnancy, not sure why you went off it? it has no effect on the baby as its is not a systemic drug ie it does not cross through the body it stays in the digestive system. there is no way i could go off mine as I have gerd LPR...both my general doctor, fertilty specilist for IVF, obsitriction and midwife all said that it is a complety safe drug!

I stopped taking because I find it VERY difficult to get an appointment with my doctor. I've been waiting to get it OK'ed with him. Don't want to be popping pills I don't know are safe or not!

Had an omeprazole last night, actually got in a good 6 hours sleep. Course its started right back up again this morning.
I have tried EVERYTHING! Smaller, more frequent meals, looser clothing, even been sleeping with upper body elevated.
Milks making me puke though. Just cannot stomach it.

I'm at the point where anything i eat/drink or suck is making it unbearable. I've been shoving fingers down the throat to relieve me of some of the acid.
I think I'll take another omeprazole later on, might make eating more bearable.

If morning sickness isn't bad enough eh!
