My mw said I will be sent for this test this pregnancy due to the high birth weight of my first baby, although she thinks I will be ok. What does the test involve, any tips on passing it?

I have to get one done early (in a few weeks) and then again later on because my family has a history of diabetes and I'm overweight. Had to get it done twice with my daughter too. It's not that bad really. All you do is go in to your doctors and they give you this really sweet drink, you drink it all and wait an hour then go back and they pull some blood. That's it. Nothing to be scared about, if they want you to have one done early your doctor should mention it and set up a date on your first visit, otherwise I think everyone has to get one done later on in the pregnancy, at least here in the states.

As for tricks for passing, don't eat sugar or carbs before you go in. Have eggs or grilled chicken. I had a friend who failed because of her breakfast and had to go on to do the 3 hr test and that came out fine. I firmly believe that they need to know early on if your sugar is going to be an issue, but overdoing it right before the test can mess with the results. If your sugars are off, they will still be able to tell that even if you just had eggs before the test :) Good Luck! I'm sure everything will turn out perfectly! Happy and Healthy 9 months to you!
