Hi ladies- I’m despite for some advice!!! I had my 20 week scan yesterday and they said my baby is large, weighin in the 95th percentile!! They said it could be one of 3 things- 1 it’s just a large baby, 2 the measurements may be off, 3 I could be developing gestational diabetes. I had the glucose test around 10 weeks and it was normal but now they want me to go for another one. I looked up stuff about it yesterday online and it has me all freaked out now! I cried all night last night because I feel guilty- obviously it’s not intentional, but it’s my body’s fault that something may be wrong with my baby! :(

Looking up online could be your worst enemy lol. Maybe you're farther along than doctors say you are? If you do have gestational diabetes it can be controlled by diet. Don't worry yourself too much just yet, until you have some concrete answers :)

they said I'm not further along. so even if I can "control" it, things will be okay moving forward? i'm so scared that it's going to cause problems later on with the baby after he's born. and when i think of the weight it freaks me out!... they are estimating he weights 1 lb 1oz, and at 19 weeks he should only be weight between 8-9oz! that's a HUGE difference- literally!

With my first pregnancy, I tested highon the first test they had me take another one and everything was fine! Anyway, they told me if I watched my diet and excercised it was easily controlled.

If you do have it, I think they monitor more closely and do a c section if baby is too large. Most times it goes away after pregnancy.

Good luck! WIshing you a happy and healthy 9 months

Wow 1lb 1oz at 20 wks really is big. If that is indeed baby's weight you will have to be monitored very closely. Hopefully LO won't get too big with you watching your diet and exercising as onceisenough1 said. Best of luck to you. Keep us updated :)

I wouldn't be too worried regarding the weight hun, with my first I was told at 32 weeks that she weighed 8lb12 then 9lb6 at 38 weeks, she was born 6lb14oz at 40+1..
As for the GD, if you do have it you will be monitored more often with scans every 2-4 weeks (depending on how the diabetes is controlled) and see a diabetic nurse every 2 weeks. They will monitor your baby and take it from there. Most GD is diet controlled and occasionally they may prescribe Metformin or Insulin depending on how it goes x

Thank you all for your comments! I'll be calling my dr this week so I can go for the glucose test ASAP. I will keep you all posted

i feel ya! im 34 weeks and my boy is pushing 7lbs atm. i took the test twice and passed but my midwife still feels like i probably have GD and i had to take another test last week. im hoping it comes back as another pass, because i would feel terrible to know i have it now when im so close to my due date. my poor fat lil' baby (they think if i get full term he may be around the 10-11lb mark if he keeps gaining weight at this rate)

Just wanted to say that measurements can be off on a large scale. At 37 weeks I was told that my son was 12lbs!!! I had him at 39 weeks and he was 9lbs 6oz. I did have GD so he was still a big baby but he certainly wasn't 12lbs! My point is, don't worry too much unless the test comes back positive as it could very well be nothing.

it was only when my midwife and the backup midwife got different measurements and sent me off for a scan at 32 weeks that we found out he was big. until then they both had been measuring incorrectly cause he's in a strange position hahaha. where im from they estimate baby's weight and what not by feeling and measuring your bump, i noticed a lot of american women on here can get scans in their 3rd trimester to track size. we don't get them here unless something is wrong! oh wait, at my 20 week scan they said he was about a week bigger so i guess we did kinda know he was a bit bigger but didn't really pay attention hahahaha.

I'm going through the same thing!! I was scanned on 27th September at 20 weeks 6 days and we were told baby is very big. Her legs, head circumference and abdominal circumference are a lot bigger than what they should be. My consultant called me to book me in for a gtt at 24 weeks plus a scan at 28 weeks to see how she is growing. I knew she was big coz I felt earlier kicks/movements than with my 2 previous pregnancies. I didn't expect a tiny baby my son was 7lb4 born at 40 plus 3 to a previous partner I already have a daughter with my now husband who was 8lb13 born at 39 plus 4. My husband is 6ft4 so she was never going to be a tiny dainty baby but u didn't expect her to be so big at this point.

Did u call your doctor x

i went last wednesday for the 3 hour glucose test for GD- i'm thinking they will be calling me today probably to give me the results... i'll let you know!

well, my dr called yesterday (i had my 3 hour glucose test last wednesday) and they said i do NOT have GD!!! i'm so relieved!!! except, still wondering why my baby is still so big? i'm guessing it will either just be a big baby, or their measurements are off. i go for a follow up ultrasound on the 24th so we'll see if he got any bigger by then i guess! ???
