Gestational Sac - banana shape?

[TTC Again]

Okay, so i had my first ultrasound on Wednesday at 6w. I was so excited to hear the heartbeat (112 BPM) and have been looking at the US pictures every day so excited...my RE did not say anything looked odd or out of the ordinary. BUT, the more I look at the picture the more I start to get myself crazy and nervous. The gestational sac is not exactly round - more like banana shaped. Wondering if this is anything to be concerned about or should I assume it is okay since my RE didn't make any mention of it whatsoever?

Anyone ever had a banana shaped sac and gone on to have an uncomplicated pregnancy???

No not at all.. When the ultrasound was done it could've pushed on the sac making it take an abnormal shape and that's fine. If there was something to be concerned over they would of said something. Remember there is water in the sac (amniotic fluid) and you know how it is to push on like a water balloon? You're fine hun.

If the sac was ACTUALLY banana shaped they would have noticed and said something as an "irregular" sac is an ominous sign, however, as they didn't say anything (and believe me they would have if worried) it is safe to assume that they just snapped at a weird angle or pressed at a funny angle, when I have had my scans, I have seen the sac in ALL weird shapes and positions. Just depends how they take the picture.

if they didnt say anything to you then im sure it looked fine, my last pregnancy i had an irregular sac (you can see it in my siggy next to memorial ticker) and i did lose the baby. But i know that you can also have an irregular shaped sac cos of the shape of your womb.

my scan was like in a banana shaped sac. no sac is a perfect round shape! its normal hun, dont worry!

My daughters was very long and thin at 10w5d. at her 12 week scan the sac was round and she looked totally different. It's so amazing how they change in such little time.

Don't worry hun, if there was a problem they would have looked into it.xx

p.s i meant to say that they told me i had an irregular sac and they were worried, if they didnt say anything to you then you dont need to worry!

Thanks, girls. I really appreciate the input. My RE didn't make any mention of the shape of the sac at all. I just got myself worked up about it at home after the appointment (didn't even really notice during the scan, but looking at the pictures it struck me as odd).

i go in next Wednesday for another scan at 7weeks, so we'll see what's going on in there then. I'm only scared because with my last MC I had a scan at 7 weeks where the heart beat was very slow and suddenly the sac had caved in on itself. the next week there was no heartbeat. Just praying it's not a repeat performance. only good thing was that the heartbeat sounded really good this time!

I remember having my 20 week scan and reading the paper work when i got home. They had a little chart thing which showed the babies measurements and the averages. My daughter wasn't on the average range for some and i got so worked up over it. But nothing was wrong, they would defo let you know if there was. xx

Its just the angle of the doppler to see your baby. they could have showed it to you as a circle, im sure. But it was the best position to see baby. Mine was like that too, and I asked. Dont worry.

Secondly, I get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO freakin excited to hear stories about girls seeing their babys heartbeat at 6 weeks. I go at 6.2 and I am hoping soooo badly to see it!

The shape of the sac changes depending on where everything is at that moment. In my first ultrasound, the sac looked like a bean at first and then looked round.

I was searching for your thread because I went for my scan yesterday (just a little over 6 weeks) and on my ultrasound picture I seemed to have a bananna shape as well. It's really funny looking, hoping everything is ok! Heartbeat was 128, doctor said everything looked great. Keep me posted on what you find out!

Well, I had my second US yesterday at 7 weeks. They are pushing up my due date a little bit, but otherwise everything looked GREAT! Heart beat at 146 BPM, measuring 7w2d (as of yesterday) and the gestational sac looked round and not banana shaped at all. So I guess we'll just chalk it up to the image or angle at the time of my last US.

I go for 1 more US with my RE next Wednesday and then get released to my regular OB if all goes well then! So excited/nervous!
