Girls with a short luteal phase... When do you start testing?

Do you only test if AF is late?
Or do you test earlier?

For those who got a BFP: On what dpo did you get your first positive?

I'm curious because the instructions of the FRER I bought (but did not use! Still holding out! :p) today say the test can already give reliable results 6 days before the expected start of the period...

AF is due for me in 4-5 days, but this is probably only 7 DPO, so I'm a bit confused as to exactly how long I should wait.

Opinions? Anyone had (has) a similar experience?

Thanks!

I always assumed the six days before period claim was based on a 'standard' LP of 14 days. They are therefore saying probably 8dpo would be the earliest in theory.
If you have a short LP that won't effect how long it takes you to implant I don't think. Just gives you a shorter window for it to happen and stick.

Edited to add 7dpo is the earliest I've seen a BFP on here. I test from. 7DPO too but don't hope to see anything til at least 9 DPO

Yeah, that's pretty much what I thought.

"6 days before the period" is such an odd way to put it. I guess they thought "8 days after ovulation" would be too vague and obscure for women who aren't TTC and do not track their cycles.

As for me, I think I'll wait a couple more days, as I promised myself when the TWW started. Last month was such a disappointment. This month started promisingly, now... I really think I'm out. We'll see.

A BFP this month would be great, also because next month we'll probably have very few chances due to my husband's work.

Yep I absolutely agree with Joybell.

I also start testing at 7 dpo. With my ds I got the very faintest of faint lines at 11 dpo and a positive at 12 dpo.

My LP is 12 days. So within thr normal range. But it's the only stable thing in my cycle so I will take it!

my LP is 11-12 days and with my son I got a BFP at 9 dpo.

I read somewhere that vitamin B complex can lengthen your luteal phase. Took that the month I got pregnant with my son and obviously got pregnant. It's hard to say if it actually lengthened my luteal phase though

Mine swings between 10-12. I started to sporadically take b6 complex (not faithfully every day, just when I remember) a few months back and it's been 12 ever since
Might be worth a look into Lily if you are anxious about your LP. For me I thought a 10day LP was really hampering my chances as it's really not very long to allow things to happen.

Mine is between 11 and 13 days and I got a BFP with my DD at 9 DPO and a strong BFP at 10 DPO. I usually start testing at 7 DPO as well.

Thank you all so much for your replies!

I tested today at 8 DPO and I got a BFN. I'll try to wait until Monday to retest, if AF has not come by then.

Joybell - if this is not "the month" (which I think it isn't, seeing how my BBT is getting lower and lower) I do want to talk to my doc about that. The first time I mentioned it to her when I started TTC a couple of months ago, she kinda seemed to think it was a non-issue. Not sure why.

Thanks for the advice!

A lot of doctors aren't very clued up on things like that unless they are proper fertility specialists. I remember asking my GP numerous questions and getting nowhere fast!

I have a short lp usually 9 days, using agnus castus though seems to make it a few days longer and gives you a better chance at sticking
