Glucose tolerance test

Hi ladies,
You can add me to the list if you want. I'll be having mine in exactly 2 weeks, on June 2 at 9:00am Pacific time. I'll be exactly 26 weeks along at the time. I asked about fasting and they told me I'm free to eat beforehand (yay!), so I plan to eat a good sized breakfast to try and minimize any nausea (it seems to hit me worse when I haven't eaten in a few hours).
I'm having the one-hour test and hope I pass, so that I'm not asked to do the 3-hour one. I'm kinda dreading it already. No clue if my doctor's office offers flavors as I've heard other practices offer. I remember one time when I was still in early pregnancy, there was this one girl in the waiting area drinking that orange fluid and not looking too happy  I'm pretty sure she didn't drink it all over 5 minutes though (I'm positive we were both at that waiting area for quite a bit longer than that) and she was working on a big-ish plastic bottle, so I wonder if she was actually doing the 3-hour one.

So those of you who've done it already (especially those of you who are Stateside), was it just a small glass for the 1-hour one? I was under the impression that you had to drink the whole bottle, but maybe that's for the 3 hour test? Here's to hoping! And congrats to all the ladies who've already done the test and cleared it! I'll update you on how mine went after I'm done with it.

Just wanted to share my experience as I just took my test yesterday. They asked me if I had eaten beforehand (I had) then asked how long ago... Then I looked at the paper instructions from my doctor which said "DO NOT EAT withing 1 hour of test!"

Not sure if its the same for everyone but that was mine..

Also, mine was a tiny drink. If I had to guess i'd say 8-10 oz. definitely wasnt a full normal size water bottle worth. I chugged mine in less the 60 seconds.

I am in San Diego, California.

Interesting. Thanks for sharing! I specifically asked my OB's nurse if I should fast before the test and she said 'no, you can eat'. In any event, my appointment is at 9am, so I can plan to be done with breakfast by 8am, just to be on the safe side. I'll have to leave home by 8:30 anyway to get to the doctor's office in time. I hope my drink is as small as yours!
Oh and btw, I'm in LA :flower:

Welcome to all who wants to join and congrats who all have passed will be updating the list soon guys xoxoxo

I was told (and it was stressed that it was very important) not to have anything to eat or drink 2 hours before the test. It will be a lot longer than that for me, since my test is pretty much first thing in the morning, I won't have eaten anything since the night before.

Thanks. I'll call my OB's office and ask again to be sure. I know they told me I can eat though and I wasn't given any instructions, so I'm going to assume the answer will be the same (that's for the 1-hour test I'm doing, I know they require fasting for the 3-hour one). I did a little googling and there seem to be conflicting views on this. Some ladies saying you should fast, otherwise your levels may come back elevated, while others say that you shouldn't fast because then it's like cheating on the test. Whatever - I'll go with my doctor's advice, though I'm sure I won't have anything to eat for at least an hour before my appointment (so 2 hours before the blood draw), but I'll probably have a normal size breakfast with protein (which is what I usually have) about 2 hours prior to drinking the glucola.

Hi Neighbor!! :) Hoping your drink is small too!!

My test is starting at 8:30am and I can't eat after 10pm the night before :( Not looking forward to it as it makes me sick and get headaches not eating ><

I had to fast from 22.00hrs the night before, had my fasting bloods taken at 08.30hrs, drank the glucose drink then had bloods taken at 10.30. Got my results today and I passed with flying colours! My readings were 4.3 fasting then 4.8 after drink and 2 hour wait. Woohoo!

Called my docs office and they said I passed. Phew!! Cut-off is 139 and I got 102.

(Took the 1 hour test; did NOT fast but was told to not eat within 1 hour of test)

Also, HayleyJJ made a post in the 3rd Trimester section, she passed also! :)

I haven't made an appointment yetfor my testing but it looks like I'm being sent straight for the 3 hour test! :-(

I have mine booked for July 2nd although my letter only says go to the appointment! My 20 week scan is 45 mins before my apt too so I'll have to drink?!

I'm getting booked in because of dds birth weight. Hoping it's clear x

I'm dreading mine. In my last pregnancy I started shaking violently then passed out due to hypogylcemia when waiting for the drink. They actually flagged my results for low sugars, even after the drink they didn't get high enough, but they're making me do it again in this pregnancy. My random blood glucose at booking was 4.0 and the midwife said she would be genuinely shocked if I got gd.

Well I hope everyone is doing good. I just took the drink, after reading posts on orange vs green drink I was thrilled they handed me the orange. It wasn't that bad, not my cup of tea but sort of like orange soda. I chugged most of it. Now for the hour wait!

Congrats to all who passed their tests and good luck to those whose test is coming up!
Mine is this Tuesday June 2nd. I'll update after I get the results. I did call my OB's office to ask again about fasting for the 1-hour test and both my doctor and his nurse told me it's not required for the 1-hour, so I'm going to follow what they said (though I will probably finish my breakfast 1-2 hours before the test anyway :winkwink:). Will let you all know how it goes.

Hi all. Can I join this club? My GTT date has just come through - it's Fri 24th July. I have to say I'm not thrilled by the prospect but it's another one of those joys of pg!

I just did a 2 hour test on Wednesday and passed!!! :) the drink is pretty gross but the worst part is getting so many needles! Glad that's out of the way

I think this thread has mostly died down from the originals who started it because they are all in the 3rd trimester section now...
