Hi all,

My little baby girl seems to be off her milk since she had her 16 week jabs? I know that could just be coincidence, but currently she is having 5 or 6 bottles a day (normally 5) and she will drink anything from 3oz to 6oz (but the 6oz is rare, maybe once a day). Shes 19 weeks old now.

She drinks around 22-24 ozs a day but because she is not getting enough milk during the day to see her through the night, she wakes at around 1am for a feed. Before her jabs she would sleep from 730 to 530 every night. She was then probably having 5 bottles a day, but at least 5ozs everytime.

I spoke to my HV about this, and she saids shes ok as shes gained weight. But she also suggested that I start weaning.... I really don't want to do this as im worried she may drink even less milk because shes being filled up with rice instead... I was really aiming for as close to 6 months to wean as possible. Waiting for when she was ready, and showing signs that she wanted to wean.

So what to do? Keep offering the milk as and when she wants it? Or to start weaning. It would be great to hear what other 19 weeks old babies are having.

I would just like to add, i'm not bothered by her waking me at 1am at all especially as she gets extra milk here, im more concerned that shes just not having enough milk in the whole day.

Thanks :flower:

Evie would go thru phases like this and I have to say, there was nothing I could do about it really. I'd tried changing her bottles, changing teat size and most of the time it made no difference. It would just be a phase she was going thru and she'd soon perk up again after a week or so. Some weeks she'd have 22oz per day and then other weeks, she'd have around 32oz in a day!
We did start weaning at 19 weeks, but it didnt work out very well. Not only was she generally quite unsettled, she also dropped her intake of milk even further and babies need the milk much more than the food, it's their main source of nutrition so we decided to stop weaning and waited till she was nearly 6 months. In that time, her milk intake went right up again, so when we weaned her at 5 months and 3 weeks, she was more than ready for it and didnt drop her intake quite so quickly!

Nowadays, she's much more predictable when it comes to her milk and food and always has 3 7oz bottles a day along with 3 meals, pudding and snacks :) It doesnt always pay to wean early but every baby is different. What may suit one baby, wont suit the next one! :hugs:

Chances are she's feeling a bit off colour if the jabs weren't long ago. Dylan's always been a bit temperamental with his milk - feeling ill means less going in! Other than just time, the only thing that seemed to increase his intake was offering it a bit warmer, maybe because it's more comforting? Anyway, it worked for us so might be worth a try!

Thanks for your replies. She has since yesterday started to take more, funnily enough I tried making the milk a little warmer and this seems to have helped.

Shes a lot happier and settled now (and so probably am I)
