Hey girls,

I have no idea how to go about doing this, nor do I have any idea how much it will cost. Have any of you done this and how much are you looking at for dr appointments? what about having hycosy and blood tests?

If you know anything useful I'd appreciate it right about now. I suffer from irregular cycles and have been ttc for 8 months and I only get my period every other month (and it's never even like clockwork either). I went to see the Gyn and they advised cause of the waiting list I have to wait til september before I can go and get my hycosy ultrasound done, so until then I have to sit here everyday wondering if something is seriously wrong with me down below.

Has anyone got any advice?

probably :)

I'm in London I know a few down here but I'd just do a google search and start ringing around.

A hycosy is around £300 to £400 and blood test Day 3 and 7 days after ovulation is £100 to £150, trans-vaginal ultrasound is around £150
sperm analysis is around £100 to £150

Good Luck
x

Hi hun I don't know if this would help you out any but I'm just waiting for my private referral after learning we'd have to wait 16 weeks on NHS (in Edinburgh). My initial investigations will actually be covered by private health insurance I get thru my work....do u get anything similar? They won't cover helping us to get pg, but hopefully it'll speed up finding out what, if anything, is up with me. (My periods have been v random since coming off the pill Sep 2010) x

hiyaa i havent got answers but i thought id just let you know, i had to wait 16 weeks for a hsg and we had it done on the NHS,
were now seriously considering IVF and they can go boat if they think im waiting the NHS waiting list, im only 19 so my fertility chances on ivf (hopefully) will be pretty good but if i was to be on that waiting list id be 35 by the time it was my turn,

were going private but to deal with the cost of ivf were going to try a egg sharing programme, which basically means that if i donate a few of my eggs they waver the fee for the ivf, is there no way you could do something like this, because it may cover diagnostic tests, just a thought anyway hope this helps :D

Hi,

I am new to this site and this is my first posting. It all depends with the area you live in. I found it cheaper to do all the tests on NHS as ivf can be a very expensive road. My waited 3 months for my hsg and 2 months for my laproscopy. After the investigations, they found that IVF is the only option for me. I am curreenty trying to do the egg share scheme as it is free while waiting on the nhs. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments girls

mrsevans - thanks for those prices, I expected as much but I just can't find anything on the web!

justwantababy - I can get private health insurance through my work but I haven't opted for it and I think it's too late now :S

missus_L - I'm near blackpool (how glamourous!)

princess 1991 - I know how you feel, I refuse to wait so long, there must be something in the NHS policy which says "if someone isn't normal or functioning properly don't put them in a stupidly long queue" - it's typically british isn't it?

thanks for the advise chichifab, I'm hoping IVF won't happen to me (I've been told of the pain and agony over it and I nearly passed out from a simple blood test the other day!)

We have given up on the NHS too! With regards to how to go about it, you will need to see your own GP to get a referral letter to see a specialist / consultant. We have found our own private specialists and just told then Dr who to write the referral too, but I'm sure they will be able to advise you too.

Best of luck x

Hiya-we are going private at the mo. Had all tests on NHS and cam back clear but they wont do anything else till Nov 2011 when they will consider us for IUI (which I am not sure I want to do anyway) before putting us on any IVF waiting list some time next year.

We have so far paid £175 for our consultation fee and will need to pay another £230 when we go for repeat tests. After that, if we can get on the egg share scheme, a round of IVF should be about £1500.

Deb-if you dont mind me asking, which private clinic have you gone with? I am just outside Birmingham x

Kittycat - we are actually not attached to a clinic yet, but we are seeing a private urologist as the problem is with hubby (azoospermia) and also a private endocrinologist. We are potentially looking at The Lister Clinic in Chelsea, London as the urologist would be involved and it would need to be a co-ordinated cycle so I would have EC on the same day as hubby's (hopefully successful) sperm retrieval and the only place he can do that and co-ordinate it with my cycle is The Lister

I know my hubby knows of someone who has IVF in the Midlands and they said their clinic was great - I will ask him when he comes in and get back to you x

I asked hubby and he said they couldn't speak highly enough of them - and it did work for them. I think it maybe NHS, but not sure if they do private too https://www.bhamivf.org.uk
Good luck x

Thanks Deb-much appreciated I will check it out. We are with MFS at mo on recommendation they have good success rate too and v nice. They are about 30mins from us which isn't too bad. It's another 30mons away from my work tho and bit worried about the whole time off work thing etc x

hiyaa kitty cat, im also from the midlands but weve chose to go with a clinic in london, to do an egg sharing programme ''they say'' you only have to pay for the HFEA fee which is £105 :D

my auntie also went with MFS and spoke very hiighly of them, even tho her cycles failed (more to do with her age and eggs then them lol)

i have also had a butchers at MFS but i do think there prices even tho i wanna go on an egg sharing scheme are quite high!

fingers crossed my clinic doesnt pop up with any hidden charges!! xx

Hi Princess-thanks for that. The total costs of egg share inc consultation and initial repeat tests is around £1800-I know this is a lot of money and much more that £105 but it is a lot less that the normal rounds which are around £5500 I think.

I would consider a clinic out of the area but concerned about the whole distance thing. My job is pretty demanding and I have court appointments which I have to keep so I really need somewhere not too far away-I was panicking that 30 mins away is quite far!

This is my priority rather than work but realistically I need my job and cant abandon my work too much. I will be waiting until after 19th May to have a chat with my boss about it all-she is lovely so I am hoping it wont be too much of a problem x

well the jobs going to be funding the baby so suppose your right, my clinic have phone me this morning and said i can start asap, so im over the moon but going to wait till start of june cuz ive got a holiday cumming up and wanna get that out the way first lol, im super excited and hope everything goes well for you xx

we're going private for my OH's SA as the NHS in my area has taken the funding for it away so isn't avaliable on the NHS anymore, already been told i wouldn't even be considered for IVF until i'm 25 as they have tighten the rules in my PCT, it's upsetting to think these people are basically deciding our fate if we can have children or not, if we don't meet there regulations then we can't have children unless we can find thousands to go private it's disgusting

after seeing my gp we went to see the private FS.
initial appointment was £150, he then sent for me to have hsg and oh to have sa. these were both done on the nhs so didnt have to pay just got it done cheap.

then i had a 2nd appointment to discuss results which was £100, and he prescribed 3 months of clomid which was about a £10....

hope that helps. were also in the north west! x

I've heard good things about MFS too! Good luck xx
