I am on insulin for GD since 29 weeks and I am currently 32 +4wks. I had a scan at 29 weeks which showed me measuring ahead by 3 weeks and baby to be 4lbs 10, I had another scan last week which should baby to be measuring 4 wks ahead and being 6lbs 10.

I am starting to freak out now because I still have another 6-7 wks to go how big can this baby get??????

The consultant advised they wont induce me until 38-39 wks as my cervix would not be ripe before then.

My 1st was a 8lbs 1 baby and was a vacuum delivery so I am not sure how big of a baby my pelvis will take. (im 5"9 and weigh 13stone)

I dont really want to have a section if I can avoid it as I have a 19 mth old at home too and hubby will be going back to work after 2 wks.

Anyone a similar experience- was your baby really big at birth???

(((hugs))) I can't offer any advice hun, but wanted to say I understand what you're saying. My ds was 9lb 8oz and I had forceps delievery. I am petrified that this baby will be bigger, as people keep telling me that second babies are always bigger (wow, thanks!!!). At least they've been giving you regular scans, so it's not all a last-minute panic at the hospital (if that's any comfort :hugs:)

Try to relax, and remember these scans aren't always accurate xxxx

Daisy was 9lbs 9oz and was a natural delivery :) I had an episiotomy, but no assistance. I was induced for preeclampsia and so I was scanned beforehand. They estimated her weight at 9lbs 15oz, so I knew what I was expecting, and I was terrified! I'd had growth scans too, she was 3lbs 7oz at 30 weeks, 5lbs 8oz at 34 weeks and 7lbs 5oz at 36 weeks..
Anyway, it was fine. She's my first, I was in labour for 3 days and didn't sleep the entire time, and I still gave birth to her with no assistance :)

my son was 10lb5 not down to gd,just a big boy.He was my third and 1 1/2lb heavier than my other two but I managed.I think I would have been worried if I had known his weight in advance but he wasnt really any longer or bigger, just heavy.everything went ok and I had him in a couple of hours so dont worry too much.

me and my friend were due at the same time, and they told her the whole way through baby was measuring weeks ahead and he would be big last scan and appointment they told her he would be 10lbs plus!.. came out 5lbs 10oz!!!

and my baby they told me was 3weeks behind and would be no more than 6lbs and he was 8lbs 9oz i had the scan that told me he was less than 6lbs 5days before he was born lol :p

i had a 3rd degree tear with my son but it wasnt as bad as you might think wasnt in a huge amount of pain though i had alot of painkillers to take!

good luck hun :hugs: xxx

I wouldnt worry too much

My first was 9lbs 8oz and born with rotational forceps and stitches
my second was 11lbs 2oz born natural no stitches or assistance.

God knows what size this one is going to be lol. But I didnt have diabetes or anything just naturally big boys.

Wow some of you have had quite big babies and delivered vaginaly which puts my mind at ease. I know scans can be +/- 2lbs but it still does not stop me worrying.

Thank you for your replies:thumbup:

Sorry, i've just been browsing.
My first, DS was born weighing 8lb 11oz. Natural birth, small tear, a few stitches(of which i did not feel a thing when the lovely nurse was sorting me out down there!).

DD was born 3 years later, 7lb 14oz. In labour, on and off, for 6 days. Got to hosp finally and was 2cm dilated. 1hour later and i was ready to push! No tears.

I'm 5ft 8in so a teeny bit smaller then you.
A couple of my friends have had over 10lb babies. Both natural deliverys. (both woman shorter then me)

I have another growth scan today so I can only imagine how big they tell me he is this time!!! Ill let you all know

I really wouldn't worry, most women are capable of giving birth to pretty big babies naturally.

I am 5ft 6 and rather heavier than I care to mention these days, but was 7st just before my first pregnancy. My first son was 9lb atterm, second son was 10lb, born at 38 weeks. Second was definitely an easier birth than the first. I prefer big babies personally and loved having big boys.

I now measure 39.5 weeks and baby is estimated to be 8lbs- the hosp are going to monitor me every week now but said they will induce me at 38 weeks. So the babs still has another 4 weeks of growing to do ....eek....

might be a BIG baby, but I wouldnt worry yourself too much. Im 5'3 and with my first was only 115lbs before pregnancy and he was 10lbs, I delivered him naturally, no assistance, no cutting etc and had 3 stitches! Look into massages down there, it worked wonders for me, the nurses couldnt even believe I birthed a 10 lbs baby because of how small I am.....

i had GD and at 37 weeks on the nose i was scanned and told she weighed over 8½ lb - she was born at 38+4 and only weighed 7lb4oz

im the same i have delivered 9lbs babies but xander is measureing 6 weeks ahead on the growth scan im only 5"2 and 8 st normally but what will be will be i cant stop him growing lol but i am a little scared xx

Just remember growth scans can be way out..mine was almost 3lbs out!
My DS1 was 8lb 8oz and my DS2 was 10lb 3oz..i pushed DS2 out in 14 mins, half the time it took to get DS1 out..and it was easier to push with DS2..remember with a big Baby gravity is your friend lol x

thank god for this thread.... i'm having a monster apparently! 38 weeks and estimated at 9 pounds... we shall see...

My first was estimated to be small for dates and would be less than 5lb at birth... He was 6lb 14oz.
MY 3rd was 9lb 81/2, born in 40 minutes start to finish, no tears, stitches etc.
My 4th they said was 8lb at 35 weeks, and induced me at 37 weeks due to SPD and his large size. He was 7lb2oz.
I am 5ft tall and around 7 stone so a 9lb 81/2 bub was fairly big for me. No problems at all though!

I've got GD too and my baby was measuring 3lb 13oz at 27 weeks. Everybody I meet in the street assumes I'm due in a couple of weeks (31 + 2 at the moment) so I assume I look huge and that Baby is big. I won't find out how much he has grown until 32 weeks and will not be told when I will be induced until 36 weeks but am finishing work 2 weeks earlier as I'm assuming they will induce me at 38 weeks.

Yeah am in the same situation but i dunno yet how it's going to pan out.
I'm on insulin & i get scans every 2wks to make sure he's not gonna get too
big. My other babies have been 8lbs & i really dont want a big heffer of a baby lol.
Been told so far i will be induced at 38wks - all going well!
I'm due a scan on wed, last scan he was 2lbs 2oz....x

They cant b that accurate at guessing weights before the baby is born, I was told my baby would be around 6lbs and he was actually 8lb12!! Had a 4 degree tear but when ur actually giving birth u dont really feel it, its only days later and the strong painkillers wear off! whatever will be will be! :)
